PetConnect Rescue News - July 2018  Edition

Dear PetConnect Rescue Family,

Volunteers....volunteers are the heart and soul of our organization. They are the reason we are able to save the lives of so many animals in need. Often, I hear volunteers say that they wish they could do more or that they feel like they aren't doing enough. Please believe me when I say that every little action helps. Driving a load of donations from one place to another, handling a dog at an adoption event, driving a transport, helping in a lost dog search, serving on the PCR Council are just a few examples of the work that is needed to keep us going. It all matters and so do you. Together, we can do this.

From our house to yours, happy July 4th! Please be sure to take special care of your animals during fireworks time.

With Much Gratitude,
Catherine Edwards

Puppies and Kittens Everywhere!

Have you taken a look at the PetConnect Rescue website or social media pages in a while? If so, you've seen just how many puppies and kittens need forever homes.

Why the influx?

The increase in daylight hours trigger female cats and dogs to go into heat. Couple that with better weather and surprise, you've got lots of babies wandering the streets.

What happens then?

Stray kittens and puppies are often picked up by animal control and taken to the local shelter. To make room for them, older, harder-to-place cats and dogs are often euthanized. Even still, the shelters fill to capacity and the pleas for help start rolling into PetConnect Rescue.

What can I do to help?

  • Spay or neuter your own pets. After that, be sure to spread the word far & wide.
  • Thinking about fostering? Now's the time! Puppies and kittens are usually fostered in groups of 2-3. While they can be time consuming, they are often quickly adopted.
  • Consider adopting a new pet of your own.
  • Get involved in a Trap, Neuter, Return (TNR) program in your neighborhood.
  • Donate time, supplies and money.

Dog of the Month:
Lucy
Cat of the Month:
Olive

Hi, everyone. I'm Lucy. I came all the way from Puerto Rico! I am the perfect size, weighing in at 30 pounds of awesomeness. Everyone thinks I have some lab in me, but honestly, who knows?! A little about me... I like toys and I like my people. My most favorite thing to do is cuddle. If cuddling were an Olympic event, I would win the gold!  Sometimes, I can be shy around other dogs, but once I get used to them, they're fine to be around. I just really love my people. Please, will you adopt me?

Meow, I'm Darling Olive. I'm only three months old, but I'm already figuring it all out. For example, I know how much I love food, cat trees, and wand toys. What more can you want? Well, I do want something else... I'd like a forever family. See, since I'm a black cat, I'm having a harder time finding that perfect family. I can't understand why. I'm adorable, I have these amazing eyes, and once I get to know you, I'm very friendly. Are you ready to open your home and heart to me?

You Won't Want To Miss A Thing!
