At the Pittsburgh location, TRAK will offer regional manufacturers, TRAK prospects, and customers in central and western Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and eastern Ohio demonstrations of TRAK machines and comprehensive support for TRAK® and ProtoTRAK® products performed by factory direct personnel. Companies visiting the showroom will also be introduced to NCC training programs and Job Shop, which provides parts for prototype to small batch production runs. The new showroom expands upon the TRAK equipment NCC currently utilizes for its onsite training programs including the DPMRX3 Bed Mill, 1845RX Lathe, the 2op-M11 Portable VMC, and the new VMC5, introduced by TRAK in March of 2020.
“The partnership between TRAK Machine tools and New Century Careers creates a unique opportunity and synergy that will equip the Southwestern Pennsylvania workforce with the advanced skills employers need for the challenges of Industry 4.0.,” says Steve Pinto, president and CEO, TRAK Machine Tools – Southwestern Industries, Inc. “We believe that our presence at NCC will expose more students, trainers and employers to transformative technology that will allow them to compete and be more productive.”

Help build a skilled workforce. Improve job satisfaction. Save money.
The Pittsburgh Chapter National Tooling and Machining Association (NTMA) has opened enrollment to all interested apprentices for the 2020-2021 school year. The 4-year apprenticeship program is designed to provide related instruction classes to support on-the-job training provided by employers. The curriculum supports several metalworking occupations, such as machinists, tool and die makers, and CNC specialists.
The NTMA offers hands-on training that is incorporated into the classroom instruction hours. This proven apprenticeship program provides a comprehensive curriculum that keeps pace with industry standards, and is taught by instructors with industry experience. We will ensure your workers develop the right skills.
Students have the option of attending classes at one of three convenient locations: Central Westmoreland CTC in New Stanton, Northern Westmoreland CTC in New Kensington and New Century Careers' Anselmo Training Innovation Center on Pittsburgh’s South Side.
Tuition for the program is $1,560 for NTMA Members for apprentices in Years 1&2, $1,860
for non-members for apprentices in Years 1&2. $1,260 for NTMA Members for apprentices in Years 3&4, and $1,560 for non-members with apprentices in Years 3&4. Textbooks are an additional cost. The deadline for registration is August 14, 2020. Classes will begin the week of September 7, and meet one evening per week, for 36 weeks. If you do not have a registered apprenticeship with the State of Pennsylvania, you may still enroll your employee(s), and register your program with the state at a later time.
Apprenticeship programs reduce turnover rates, increase productivity and lower the cost of recruitment. Consider sending your apprentice(s) to the Pittsburgh Chapter NTMA Apprenticeship Program. Since 2005, the Pittsburgh Chapter NTMA’s manufacturing workforce development program, BotsIQ, has excited high school students across southwestern Pennsylvania. Disguised as a high school robotics program, BotsIQ builds relationships between schools and industry to introduce high school students to manufacturing careers.
This year, more than 750 students from 60 high schools participated in BotsIQ. With COVID-19 closing schools and cancelling events, less than one third of the students attended a BotsIQ competition. Despite this, approximately 90% of BotsIQ students reported learning at least one technical skill, such as machining, welding, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or CAD and nearly 500 students toured a local manufacturer or interviewed at least one industry professional about their career. Additionally, BotsIQ Academy, BotsIQ’s online training program, doubled in its second year with nearly 300 students enrolled in the industry coursework.
Now, BotsIQ plans for the upcoming school year. As schools plan how to return, BotsIQ prepares to expand BotsIQ Academy, launch a robotics technician pre-apprenticeship, and continue to grow opportunities for its students and teachers.
