New Century Careers Update
Mission Statement
For the past 20 years, New Century Careers has been, and will continue to be, an organization that is committed to making a positive difference in the lives of the trainees and employers we serve throughout Southwestern PA. We proudly updated our mission statement in the Fall of 2019 and wanted the world to see that in addition to these words, New Century Careers is committed to putting these words into action.

New Century Careers is a nonprofit manufacturer and technical skills development organization serving the Southwestern PA community through inclusive access to technical training opportunities while helping employers find and develop technicians seeking purpose, passion and success in the workplace.

As professionals of the manufacturing industry, together, we are making a difference!

NTMA Apprenticeship
NTMA enrollment is open!

Help build a skilled workforce. Improve job satisfaction. Save money.

The Pittsburgh Chapter National Tooling and Machining Association (NTMA) has opened enrollment to all interested apprentices for the 2020-2021 school year. The 4-year apprenticeship program is designed to provide related instruction classes to support on-the-job training provided by employers. The curriculum supports several metalworking occupations, such as machinists, tool and die makers, and CNC specialists.

The NTMA offers hands-on training that is incorporated into the classroom instruction hours. This proven apprenticeship program provides a comprehensive curriculum that keeps pace with industry standards, and is taught by instructors with industry experience. We will ensure your workers develop the right skills.

Students have the option of attending classes at one of three convenient locations: Central Westmoreland CTC in New Stanton, Northern Westmoreland CTC in New Kensington and New Century Careers' Anselmo Training Innovation Center on Pittsburgh’s South Side.

Tuition for the program is $1,560 for NTMA Members for apprentices in Years 1&2, $1,860 for non-members for apprentices in Years 1&2. $1,260 for NTMA Members for apprentices in Years 3&4, and $1,560 for non-members with apprentices in Years 3&4. Textbooks are an additional cost. The deadline for registration is August 14, 2020. Classes will begin the week of September 7 th , and meet one evening per week, for 36 weeks. If you do not have a registered apprenticeship with the State of Pennsylvania, you may still enroll your employee(s), and register your program with the state at a later time.

Apprenticeship programs reduce turnover rates, increase productivity and lower the cost of recruitment. Consider sending your apprentice(s) to the Pittsburgh Chapter NTMA Apprenticeship Program. For more information or to register your employee(s), please contact Liz Blashock at (412) 258-6628, via email at blashock@ncsquared.com, or visit www.pghntma.com.

M2K Spotlight
After being a baker and chef for over 20 years, Jeff had been thinking about a change in careers.

“I had been thinking about changing careers and knew I would need some vocational training to do so. I enjoy working with my hands and I though machining would be a good option”

Jeff completed every project in the book and had the opportunity to participate in New Century Job Shop.

“I believe the experience in Job Shop is what helped me to get a job,” Jeff said. “The training is great, it offers true real-world experience, so you know what to expect when you get a job.”

J eff accepted a job as a CNC Operator with a local company.

This spring, BotsIQ celebrated its 15th year of developing and inspiring high school students from across southwestern Pennsylvania. Despite the global pandemic, BotsIQ continued to provide its services to over 60 schools and nearly 1,000 students. As schools shifted to remote learning, BotsIQ provided support with its online training program, BotsIQ Academy, and developed new resources to engage students through hands-on engineering and design lessons. This year, nearly 90% of students learned at least one technical skill such as machining, welding, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or computer-aided design and more than 85% of BotsIQ students indicated they are interested in or planning to explore a manufacturing or STEM-related career.

On Monday, August 24th, community, manufacturing, and business leaders will gather at Westmoreland Country Club for an exciting day of golf benefiting the Pittsburgh Chapter National Tooling & Machining Foundation and BotsIQ. We are currently requesting donations to raffle at our event. It is our sincere hope that you will support BotsIQ by donating a gift card or scratch-off lottery tickets to be added to a basket. Donations can be sent to: Michel Conklin, BotsIQ, 305 East Carson Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15219.

Your support helps BotsIQ to continue to grow, train, and connect with more students and continues our mission to educate students about manufacturing and STEM careers.
