The Pace University Small Business Development Center (SBDC) was proud to partner with
Turner Construction Company to offer the Minority & Women-owned Business Enterprise (MWBE) & Small Business Contractor Training Program on helping a third cohort of businesses build their capacity and develop strategies for landing new contract opportunities. Through the program, participants learned the essentials of the construction management business from the technical (building information modeling, estimating, and procurement), to the managerial (field operations and management, small business financing, and site safety), to the administrative (responding to an RFP, insurance, and bonding).
In addition to coursework, the program creates opportunities for participants to network with peers, instructors, and others in the construction industry. The program concluded with a graduation ceremony in which nearly 40 program participants were awarded a workshop completion certificate. At the 2018 NYSBDC staff training conference, the Pace Small Business Development (SBDC) team attended a range of workshops and connected with NYSBDC colleagues from throughout New York State to learn best practices for small business assistance. Our client, Leonardo Molina, was awarded the Impact Business of the Year Award. Leonardo has been a client of the Pace SBDC since 2009 when he was working to launch his first restaurant, Arepera Guacuco. He recently opened his third restaurant, Guacuco Bed Stuy. Pace SBDC director Andrew Flamm and business advisor Anish Thakkar earned designations as New York State-certified business advisors. Andrew also co-moderated a Small Business Contract Financing panel with Bronx SBDC director Clarence Stanley, featuring small business lending panelists from Carver Bank, Excelsior Growth Fund, Newtek, and TruFund Financial Services.

Founded in 2010, Social Media Day is celebrated on June 30th each year to recognize and celebrate the impact of social media on global communication as well as small business. With so many social media channel options, it's important to recognize that not all content needs to be shared across each platform. Rather, it's more effective to post material to each social media platform that is most relevant to the users of that specific platform. Click

Earth Angel is a sustainable consulting business focused on serving the entertainment industry, helping them to both increase efficiency and have a positive impact on local communities. Pace SBDC helped Earth Angel's founder, Emellie O'Brien, map out and develop a business plan and financial projections, as well as start MWBE certification. With the assistance of her business advisor, Earth Angel secured a $100,000 SmartLoan from Excelsior Growth Fund for working capital to purchase inventory and hire a new staffer.

The NYC Department of Small Business Services (SBS) has launched the
Love Your Local Small Business Grant Program. Under this effort, NYC small businesses that have been in operation for three years or more can apply to secure a grant of up to $90,000 to improve operations, recruit/train employees, update technology, enhance their business location and/or improve financial management, and receive up to 20 hours of in-depth consultations from industry experts. The Pace SBDC is excited to welcome
Jaslin Singh as the Center's new marketing intern. An MBA student at Pace University's Lubin School of Business, Jaslin will be working with SBDC business advisors to help clients improve their online presence and incorporate digital marketing techniques.
Jaslin joins our team as our prior marketing intern, Tiffany Boodram, graduated from Lubin and landed a full-time position as a Content Licensing Associate at Condé Nast.
