November 2024

We Need Your Support to Help YC Families this Holiday Season!

Youth Crossroads has two opportunities to help our youth and families in need this month. The first is an internal project run by our Youth Development Program. All of our YD families have received an application to fill out with their specific grocery wishes, and we are hoping to fulfill 10 family lists this season!

We will be accepting donations of non-perishable items from now until November 21st. Food items can be dropped off at the Youth Crossroads Office (6501 Stanley Ave.), Monday-Friday, between the hours of 10 am and 5 pm. Please label any donations / bags “YD Thanksgiving”.

If you have any questions, please reach out to Briana Tapia,

708-484-7400 ext. 055, or

brianat@youthcrossroads.org

Our second opportunity is through the December Project who has partnered with Youth Crossroads to provide holiday gifts to over 200 teens in Berwyn, Brookfield, Forestview, Lyons, Stickney and Summit areas. It's easy to support, just simply click here or the QR code on the flier to purchase a $5 50/50 raffle ticket now through November 24.

You can also attend their event on Sunday, November 24 from 3:30 pm to 9:00 pm at Bad Attitude Bar and Grill, Forest View and purchase raffle tickets there.

We thank The December Project for their partnership and hope that you will help support our local youth and families in need by participating in one of these opportunities.

From Intern to Advocate: Gratitude and Growth at Youth Crossroads, Lizbeth S, BSW Intern

Today, I started a group for newcomers at Heritage Middle School, which made me realize my full circle at Youth Crossroads. It was such a nostalgic feeling to be on the facilitator side of running the group after being in the student’s seat just a few years ago. It made me realize my gratitude toward YC and their cooperation in helping me become who I am today.

Reflecting on my time here, I can see how every experience, challenge, and lesson has shaped me professionally and individually.

Since 2001, November has been recognized as National Runaway Prevention Month (NRPM) when then, President George W Bush held the landmark White House Conference on Exploited and Runaway Children to raise public awareness and promote the National AMBER Alert act. Providing guidance for parents, police officers and in general community members on the risks and realities of runaway and missing youth, and to provide early intervention is a guiding force of what we do here at Youth Crossroads.

A Five Year Committment of Support

YC recently received a commitment from the Healthy Communities Foundation for a multi-year general operating grant with an approved $145,000 for year one. While many grants are specific to programming covering base salaries and program costs, general operating monies are important to the overall wellbeing of an organization, covering day-to-day costs like utilities, technology costs, and general office supplies. We appreciated the recognition of the important work that Youth Crossroads is doing and thank the Healthy Communities Foundation for its on-going support. Thank you!
