Dear Middle School Families,

What a week! As our community is wrapping up our expanded orientation experience, we look forward to our first full week of classes as a hybrid learning community.

Next week, we begin balancing our safe use of spaces in the building and making sure all our students are able to fully engage in their learning—no matter what learning environment they are in (on-campus or online).
What to expect next week
Students will access course materials through our learning management system, Canvas. Classes will have both synchronous and asynchronous elements.
🏫 When students are on campus ...
A few reminders ...
Here are a few things to keep in mind. Please note: students will not be able to be on campus without a completed daily attestation form and a commitment to adhering to the expectations and guidelines we've shared.
Families must complete a daily attestation form by 7:30 a.m. for their child every day during the 20-21 school year—even when they are online for the day. This will give the health office important data about the physical health of the community. Read more.

We have a set of expectations for all of our students, with the big three being: (1) wear a mask, (2) social distance, (3) wash your hands. Students should regularly review these expectations to ensure they are familiar with all our protocols.
Each day students come to campus, they need to bring a backpack that fits all their belongings. They're going to need to keep their backpack with them at all times throughout the day. Here are the things to pack, and a reminder: we encourage students to keep phones at home.
đź’» When students are online ...
Our rotating schedule allows all classes to have a combination of on campus and online instruction. This is important in ensuring that all students have a similar experience.

Our hybrid model intentionally incorporates synchronous and asynchronous teaching and learning. There will be times it is important for teachers to be right in front of students guiding them and other times when students are working on their own or in smaller groups to allow teachers to check in with students or observe students throughout the learning process. These observations allow teachers to respond to the different needs of students.
Coming Soon
Resources for Parents: We are creating resources and tutorials to help parents/guardians fully leverage our tools and resources that will help support student learning.

Course Spotlight: In future communication, a different course will be highlighted each week to give families even more information about the learning experience at Beaver.

October Schedule: Once we have a little more data about our on campus experience, we will let families know about any changes to our weekly schedule. We are doing all we can to revise plans and create next practices to ensure the best Beaver experience for our students and families. Families can expect us to be flexible as needs and circumstances change. We very much appreciate that we are asking the same of our full Beaver community. We thank you for your patience and we continue to Launch, Test, and Refine.
In partnership,

Director of Middle School
