The Crisis Facing the BBC
The BBC is one of the most reputed news organisations in the world but this week it faced a huge crisis leading to the resignation of the broadcaster’s top bosses. The reason: Donald Trump. Turns out, one of their programmes had edited the US President’s speeches for a documentary on the Jan 6 riots in a way that was misleading. They cut out a section where Trump said he wanted supporters to demonstrate peacefully. The President’s war against traditional media is well known. Will this be a new low in his relationship with the fourth estate?

Jamaica Reels from Hurricane Melissa’s Devastation
Hurricane Melissa, the strongest storm to ever hit Jamaica, caused up to $7 billion in damage, destroying homes, roads, and farms and leaving thousands jobless. Prime Minister Andrew Holness said the storm wiped out nearly a third of the country’s economy and warned recovery could take years. At least 75 people died in Jamaica and 43 in Haiti, where flooding devastated towns. Holness promised stronger rebuilding, tax-free relief imports, and appealed for international aid as communities remain cut off. Read more here.
