Betty Aragon-Mitotes writes, "We plan to build the Cultural Center to compliment the Museo, those of you that have come to the Museo know that it is a small 4 room adobe home that used to be the Romero family home. We have turned it into a Museo (museum) to honor the early Hispanic pioneers that came to Fort Collins in the 20's to work in the beet fields and Great Western Sugar Factory. We need letters of support from the community that see the benefit of this Cultural Center. The possibilities are endless, our vision is to have a place to do exhibit work, a space for book authors, a small library, and space for classes, a teen leadership, and a commercial kitchen for cooking classes. Please mail to Betty Aragon-Mitotes, 140 2nd Street, Fort Collins, Colorado 80524"

Judy Calhoun with Larimer Humane Society is thrilled that the vote for a new facility will be on the ballot in November. Larimer Humane Society has been in its current shelter for 40 years while the population they serve has grown more than 330%.
"While our building has aged and deteriorated, our animal intake has increased 10-fold," says Executive Director Judy Calhoun. "We've used paint, caulk, duct tape, nails and bungee cords to keep operating in our current space. The size and construction of kennels, as well as the layout and design of the facility are barriers to an animal's ability to heal from injuries and receive the behavioral training more animals need to be healthy and adoptable."
The new shelter is designed for efficiency, provides more space for animal training and allows for considerations that are paramount to animal health. Updated HVAC systems, durable materials, and special plumbing specific to animal sheltering needs are on the top of the list for controlling disease and keeping animals healthy.
"We're asking the community to vote YES in November for a new animal shelter in Larimer County," Calhoun said. "We appreciate the generosity our community has shown to us over the years. But now, more than ever, it is an important for people to support Larimer Humane Society by making sure they get out and vote - to take the extra step and properly support to fund a humane and safe place for stray and abandoned animals throughout Larimer County."
Members of the public interested in helping with the campaign to pass a favorable vote in November are encouraged to visit www.larimerhumane.org to learn more.
