Our gathering will begin Tuesday, October 3. A block of rooms has been reserved for YMCA Alumni at the Best Western in Bandera. 711 Main St. The phone number is 830-688-8081. The rate is $119 per room per night plus taxes. Please call by September 5 to confirm your reservation. There's no guarantee for this rate past this date.
After check in at 3, we will go to Durwood and Kathleen’s home in Pipe Creek just about 15 minutes away from downtown Bandera. They will be our hosts for a fajita dinner and a short meeting that evening. The address is 4653 Bear Spring Road, Pipe Creek, TX 78063. BYOB if you want to enjoy a few drinks with our colleagues.
Enjoy a complimentary breakfast at the hotel Wenesday. Then, at 9:30 a.m., we'll take a Western wagon ride around the town. There will be a time from about 11 – noon for browsing in some local shops. Lunch will be on your own. There are several restaurants in town: barbeque, Chinese, American or Mexican.
The afternoon includes some optional activities:
· Horseback riding along the Medina River: $75 for a 1-hour ride. We need to know in advance if you would like this activity so we can make reservations with the outfitter. There will need to be a minimum of 3 people and a maximum of about 12.
· Ranger-led interpretive talk at the Hill Country State Natural Area. Time to be determined.
· Museum of Natural History (a newer museum in Bandera). Checking on the Senior price.
· Hiking at the Hill country State Natural Area. State Park pass or admission fee required.
We will gather at the hotel around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday evening and walk to the 11th Street Bar and Grill. You will have a chance to grill your own steak (the chapter will provide steak or chicken breast). Potatoes and salad too. Live music will begin at 7 p.m.. Let’s go Western. Wear your boots, jeans, and hats.
