Connect. Travel. Serve.

Hello Craig,

Hope everyone is enjoying the end of summer while staying cool and hydrated. It’s almost time again for our Fall Gathering. We will be meeting in historic Hot Springs, Arkansas, October 11-13.

Our base site will be the Staybridge Suites Hotel on beautiful Lake Hamilton, which is only a short drive to town.

Just a few of the available activities include your choice of touring the National Park historical Bath Houses, hiking the trails, leisurely shopping downtown and gambling at the casino. Of course, the best activity is visiting with fellow YMCA Alumni and our world-famous auction. (We are trying to raise as much money as possible, so feel free to bring items that will help us reach that goal.)

The Conference registration fee is $30 per person, which includes Wednesday night dinner at Fisherman’s Wharf on the lake. Hotel reservations must be made by Sept 20. If anyone needs financial help with the Gathering, please give me a call. Be sure to click on the registration form and hotel info below. Hope to see everyone in Hot Springs in October.

Some delays, but progress made on National Service Project

By Carmilita Gallo

Two more groups of volunteers traveled to Dupree, S.D. in July to continue working on our National Service Project on the Cheyenne River Sioux Reservation in partnership with the YMCA of the Seven Council Fires. The tiny home village broke ground in May.

Delays and cost overruns with raw materials have caused some slow-downs to the project. Concrete has been hard to come by but the first foundation was finally poured at the end of July. We continue to sing the praises of all those volunteers that have invested their time and treasure to work on this project onsite in Dupree.

There are two more volunteer waves in the fall: one at the end of October and the last one at the beginning of November. The October wave is full but there is still room in the last week. We hope to put up walls and enclose the first tiny home in Oct. so that we can work on the inside of the home and put on a roof before the harsh winter weather sets in later in the fall. During the months of March through July 2022 our income (+$4,147.25) was from our Spring Conference registrations and some very generous donations from our members to EAF and World Service.

Expenses (*-$3032.50) were from the conference, president training and forwarded donations to EAF and World Service.

As of July 31, 2022 our bank balance is $8,598.90 with outstanding checks to EAF of *$1,300 and **pledges to the National Service Project of $1,000. After those expenses are brought forward, our available balance will be $6,298.90.
