Meet Susan Ettl

Director of Visual Arts

Full-time volunteer for 11 years

“I enjoy working with all the artists, juror/judges, and students, plus admiring all the artwork that CPAC exhibits,” says Susan Ettl, CPAC’s Visual Arts Director and full-time volunteer for the past 11 years.

In addition, she coordinates all non-competition and manages the workshops and weekly classes. There’s so much more to her job description, this just scratches the surface of what she means to CPAC.

Susan jokes, “If  someone who is very left brain, having a Master of Science degree in Mathematics, plus working both as a university lecturer in Mathematics and an aerospace engineer can be creative, then anyone can.”

She writes the information for CPAC’s brochure and maintains the Exhibit, Workshop, and Weekly Classes webpages on its website.

Susan is also an artist, fiber instructor and designer. She has taught the Intro to Art Cloth at Tucson’s Dinnerware Artspace. She also has taught at Tubac’s Center for the Arts, GVR and CPAC and is a member of the Santa Rita Art League. Her work has been exhibited in several states.

'The Transatlantic Salon'

with the Ximenz Quartet

presented by the

Arizona Early Music Society

Saturday, Dec. 16, 2023 * 3 p.m.

The musical salons...
In keeping with the spirit of 18th century intellectual salons, the musical salon was a place where like-minded people could gather to enjoy performances, conversation, and refreshments. The Transatlantic Salon celebrates music for the string quartet by Joseph Haydn, Maddalena Laura Lombardini Sirmen, Joseph Bologne Chevalier de Saint-George, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and Pedro Ximenez Abrill Tirado, and the creativity that captivated 18th and 19th century salon audiences throughout Europe and South America.

The Ximenez Quartet

Broadly defined, Early Music is the art of rediscovering music of the past using historical techniques and instruments. In doing so, audiences and performers alike are able to gain new perspectives on live music-making. While music is undeniably a universal language, changes in taste and technology over time have made it equally undeniable that Mozart and Haydn understood their music in a very different way than we do today. Performers of Early Music seek to bridge this gap for 21st-century listeners.

Using period instruments from the 18th-century, The Ximenez Quartet have

made it their mission to bring repertoire by less-known composers to audiences in a sensitive, historically informed, and contextualized manner," says Dominic Giardino, Executive Director of Arizona Early Music. "Placing music by composers such as Maddalena Lombardini Sirmen and Joseph Bologne on equal terms with celebrated canonic works serves to paint a more accurate and inclusive soundscape of the vast 18th-century musical world."

Join the Ximenez Quartet Dec. 16 for a joyful program featuring intimate chamber music from both sides of the Atlantic in The Transatlantic Salon.
