Connect. Travel. Serve.
Greetings!

I hope everyone is doing great and is ready for 2022 without COVID.

We have scheduled our Spring Gathering to be held in Fort Worth
April 6-8. This will be our first in-person get together in two years and I believe everyone is ready to see all of our friends. We have a lot of exciting things to do in Fort Worth along with just reconnecting with friends. I have missed visiting with all of you and hope you can join in. Be sure to read the story below and register.

I want to give a big Thank You to Pat Murphy our past chapter President. Pat kept us up-to-date and informed on YMCA Alumni the past two years during the pandemic.

This newsletter includes some exciting news about our YMCA Alumni National Service Project. Carmelita Gallo is the new YMCA Alumni West Region Vice President and our leader for the project.

I encourage everyone to learn more about the project and to get involved by donating and/or volunteering. Thank you Carm for your leadership.

YMCA Alumni National Service Project:
Here's how to get involved
by Carmelita Gallo
By now you have heard about this first-ever National Service Project from YMCA Alumni, but have you donated yet? Have you registered to volunteer to help construct the first tiny home yet?

I hope you are seriously considering doing so! Our 2022 fundraising efforts with our members ends on March 31. We are making great strides and have the green light to break ground on the first tiny home in May.

We will continue fundraising until we reach our goal of $600,000 to build seven homes and two twigs (program centers) over the next three years.

Volunteers will begin the construction project the week of May 15 and five additional construction "waves" are scheduled throughout the summer and fall. We need hundreds of volunteers to pull off this ambitious project, so please consider traveling to the Sioux YMCA in Dupree, S.D. and committing to a week of meaningful work that will have lasting impact.
If you cannot travel, consider volunteering for one of dozens of positions you can do virtually from your home. Every volunteer position is critical to our success and there is a job for every one of you just waiting. To register to travel to Dupree, click on the red button below and then click on the “Project” tab. To review all the volunteer opportunities and apply for one, click on the “Volunteers” tab.

In addition to partnering with the Sioux YMCA to build a tiny home village, the National YMCA Alumni Board’s dream for this project is to re-energize and re-engage our members. Along with that, we also want to bring back lapsed members and reach out to retirees who are non-members.

But none of these dreams will be realized if we do not reach our goal of $600,000. You all have received a letter via email from our Fundraising Chair Jim Pacey. Jim and his team are in the process of reaching out to every Schreiner member to answer your questions and assist them in making a pledge.

However, you do not have to wait. To donate, click that red button and hit the “Giving” tab. You can donate by credit card by filling out the appropriate form which is encrypted and secure. You also can donate by check by filling out a different form. Or, you can click on the “Pledge” button and specify the amount you will contribute over the next three years.

"Wawokiye" means “generosity” in the Lakota Sioux language. It is our sincere hope our members’ generosity will be evident by your contributions of time, talent, and treasure.
