Road projects, maintenance on schedule
You’ve probably noticed there’s a lot less traffic in Washington County these days, which has some folks wondering why Land Use & Transportation (LUT) and other road agencies aren’t doing all road construction and repairs scheduled for the summer now.

Despite physical distancing challenges, LUT staff and contractors are making good progress on projects under construction. The Elwert/Kruger roads intersection, Roy Rogers Road, 198th Avenue, Jenkins Road, 69th Avenue bridge, Scotch Church Road bridge and the Mt. Richmond bridge projects are all on or ahead of schedule, thanks to the early dry weather. Our Operations and Maintenance road crews have also been able to take advantage of the weather to get a head start on many of our seasonal maintenance activities. Visit wc-roads.com for a complete list of projects in construction.

We are generally not, however, able to start new road construction projects ahead of schedule. Lead times for design, permitting, contracting and more keep project start dates on a pretty strict schedule. We also can’t bid construction jobs ahead of schedule from a monetary perspective.

Our Urban Road Maintenance District (URMD) slurry seal program and our overlay work will begin once the weather is more consistently dry. Projects scheduled to begin later this spring and summer are moving forward . Those starting construction through early July include:

  • B Street bridge replacement

  • Butner Road culvert

  • Johnson Street sidewalk - URMD project

  • Madeline Street sidewalk URMD project

  • Several pedestrian crossings as part of our Safe Routes to School program

  • Road Fund overlay program

  • URMD slurry seal program

As our crews and contractors work to keep travelers safe through road improvements and maintenance, we ask that travelers remember to keep those folks safe in return. With less traffic on the roads, it’s tempting to speed. Please remember to slow down and pay attention when you see the orange signs. THANK YOU!  Learn more
OPEN HOUSES

COMMITTEE INVOLVEMENT
ODOT is forming a 15-member Equity and Mobility Advisory Committee (EMAC) to advise on how tolling, combined with other strategies, can benefit historically underserved populations.

The EMAC will also support the development of an equity framework for I-5 and I-205 tolling projects and for other state tolling locations that may be evaluated in the future. The committee will advise both ODOT and OTC.

The committee will be comprised of up to five at-large positions filled through an application process; the remainder will be appointed. At-large members will represent communities of interest. These members will share information between the EMAC and the communities they represent.

Apply online before May 1. Learn more
