BOB WARNOCK

FROM THE PRESIDENT

Greetings, fellow Lyons Chapter YMCA Alumni.

As we head into the summer season, I hope you are well and staying active. We had a wonderful get-together at Pilgrim Place in Claremont a month or so ago. Lindy Lindeman put together a program that those of us who were able to attend will long remember.

Phyllis and Jim Murphy will host our annual summer backyard barbecue on August 8. These opportunities to break bread together are always enjoyable, and I hope you can make time in your busy schedules to be with us.

I’ll be attending "48 Hours," a biennial meeting of all YMCA Alumni chapter presidents and national board members, in St. Louis June 2-4. This is an opportunity for us to share our respective chapters’ ideas, activities, and challenges. I’m especially looking forward to it because I missed it two years ago due to illness. It’s been years since I visited St. Louis, and I’ve never been to the “top of the arch” and plan to do that this trip. I’ll share my learnings with you all in our next newsletter.

My YMCA Alumni experience is one of the most enjoyable parts of my retirement, and it can be for you as well. I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible at the Murphy’s home in August.

Bob

SPRING MEETING AT PILGRIM PLACE

RON EVANS WAS OUR SPEAKER

Our spring meeting was held at Pilgrim Place in Claremont. Lindy Lindeman introduced Ron Evans, our featured speaker. Ron had been with YMCA World Service in Uganda and served with YMCA World Alliance in Geneva. He inspired us with stories from his international YMCA experience.

Lee and Tracy Muckey shared information about the YMCA Alumni International Service Corps (ISC), which is providing opportunities for retirees to serve YMCAs around the world on short-term assignments. We welcomed Janet Napier and Connard Hogan, who traveled from the Santa Barbara area to join us.
