Church faces storm’s damage with hope

Despite losing half of its roof during a suspected microburst late March 14, the people of First United Methodist Church in Elgin are looking ahead even as they wipe away tears. Rev. Dr. Felicia LaBoy, church leaders, and neighbors have rallied together, demonstrating the deep connections built through years of service, including youth mentorship, meal programs, and shelter support. As recovery begins, United Methodists across the region are offering prayers, assistance, and financial aid, reinforcing the congregation’s resilience and commitment to its mission. Read story.
