PAM POWER

PRESIDENT'S PONDERINGS

“Almost Spring Greetings” to all our Sam Schreiner Chapter members! I do hope all is well with you and your families. We send special healing thoughts to our long-time members Lou and Ellie Cumings.

Twenty-two Schreiner members just returned from the fabulous YMCA Reunion Cruise 2025 aboard Royal Caribbean's Harmony of the Seas.We all had a great time together, enjoyed the entertainment on board the ship, the great food, met some new friends, and saw some “old” ones, explored ports in Mexico and Honduras, and got to relax. The photo shows Elizabeth Seth and me "glamming it up" on Black & White Night.

Sam Schreiner Chapter was well represented and our own Carmelita Gallo, West/VP of YMCA Alumni, and her planning committee did an awesome job with YMCA events on-board, like a live-streamed video call with Y Retirement CEO Michael Cefole, and a Zoom video from the Y-USA CEO, Susanne McCormick. Thanks to all who helped make the cruise a great success. The next reunion will be in 2027, hosted by the Central Region.

Now we are looking forward to Sam Schreiner’s next gathering. Plans are being finalized for our Spring “Round Up” in Round Rock Texas, April 8-10. (See details below.)

Blessings to all.

SCHREINER-AT-SEA

Middle row: Johnie Mae and Chuck Dandridge, Jean Carmichael, Jan and Patrick Murphy trade in the big boat for a smaller one, Durwood and Kathleen Owen, Reunion Chair Carmelita Gallo. Bottom row: Terry and Elizabeth Seth; Terry sharing lunch with a hungry manatee.

IT'S A 'ROUND UP AT ROUND ROCK'

Join us in Round Rock and get that famous Salt Lick BBQ, catch a foul ball at Dell Diamond for AAA baseball and have some lunch and visit the CHASCO YMCA.

Pam Power is finalizing our Spring “Round Up” plans in Round Rock, Texas, April 8-10. Hotel reservations can be made at the Holiday Inn Express, 2340 N. IH 35, in Round Rock, using the link below.

Everyone must make their own reservations, but we have blocked 10 rooms for our group, both king-size and double-queen suites. The deadline for hotel reservations is March 8 at the special rate of $95 per night, plus taxes. The hotel offers free hot breakfast, Wi-Fi, parking, and a meeting room. The Holiday Inn Express is conveniently accessible from IH 35.

HOTEL RESERVATIONS

Some of the activities planned for our gathering include a Texas barbeque dinner at the famous Salt Lick Restaurant; and a visit to Round Rock Honey, a local honey bottling plant, to learn about the life cycle of bees, have some honey samples, and maybe take some honey home.

A lunch and a visit to the Chasco YMCA in Round Rock is planned as well as an evening at Dell Diamond to enjoy a AAA baseball game between the Round Rock Express vs -- you guessed it -- OKC. Bring your OKC caps from our visit there, and we can cheer for Round Rock. It’s also a $1 hot dog night at the ballpark. A tour of the Williamson County Museum and Courthouse is also on our schedule.

Indeed, it’s an eventful three days. We will begin at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the hotel. We hope to see you there. The registration fee is only $55 for all these events. If you live in Round Rock, Georgetown, or a nearby area and prefer not to stay at the hotel, that is fine. Just meet us at the hotel at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

On Thursday morning, we will have our business meeting and traditional live auction to raise funds for YMCA World Service, International Service Corp, and YMCA Alumni National Service Project. Please bring an item or two for the auction that everyone might enjoy and your checkbook to go home with a great gift and the good feeling that you have helped some great causes.

See you soon in Round Rock.

Please complete the registration form by clicking on the button below, print it, and include it in an envelope with your check for $55 for one person or $110 for a couple and mail to Jim Heiman, Treasurer, at the address on the form.

Jim's Phone: 940-782-0328. Or email.

NATIONAL SERVICE PROJECT:

DEDICATION PLANNED IN SEPTEMBER

YMCA Alumni has been partnering with the YMCA of the Seven Council Fires to create the Morningstar Community of four tiny houses in Dupree, SD. A Dedication Weekend is planned for September 20-21, 2025.

The fundraising goal of $850,000 has been surpassed with additional

funds raised that will go towards making the homes and "twigs" (two small YMCA branches in rural areas) even better.

Volunteers are still needed to complete the homes. Four work weeks are being offered in 2025, two weeks in May and two weeks in September. If you are interested in volunteering or just looking for more information, please click the button below.
