The Big Balloon Build and Fashion Show
The Vincennes/Knox County community was blown away by 65 international balloon artists that came to Indiana's first City to build the first USA big balloon build based on the theme Candyland. Hasbro gave the rights to the BBB and Hershey became the Diamond sponsor of an event that built the game on the floor and walls of the Highland Woods Community Center in three and a half days with 125,000 balloons. The opportunity to fund raise was then presented to the United Way of Knox County who had two ticketed events the next two days a balloon fashion show featuring 11 models and escorts with dresses designed by an international dress maker and a breakfast with the bunny. These two events raised $65,000 for the United Way and will go to support impact work with youth (Bedtime in a Box, Kindergarten Jumpstart, K-3 Tutoring), Adults (VITA tax service, Charity Tracker) and agencies (Wabashvalleyconnect.org and the Homeless Task Force. Finally the even opened up to the general public with the admission of a donation of food to 13 area food banks. 14,300 lbs of food were collected from an estimated crowd of 5,000 who toured the facility.

UNITED WAY ON THE MOVE
May 2nd at 316 Main St! Watch for our Ribbon Cutting in Mid May
Thanks to the generosity of the Urban Enterprise Zone, Vincennes City and Knox County government, the UWKC will be relocating from the ONB 3rd Floor to 316 Main, the former site of the Knox County Chamber of Commerce. Thank you Old National Bank for being our home over the past 2 decades!
Homeless Task Force
The Task Force is currently in the process of applying for one of two grants being offered by the Division of Mental Health and Addiction that would help us build our referral portal, screening, and access to services. We are also working with the Mayor's office, First City Sunrise, local landlords, and developers to pursue larger federal grants for possible development of temporary shelter or living arrangements.
Time for existing agencies and new potential partners to submit the REQUEST TO APPLY on our website under the Agency Portal. This enables each group to be considered for inclusion in the 2022 campaign.
The United Way of Knox County has received a matching grant from Lilly for the 2022-2023 Calendar years in the amount of $118,000. These funds will go directly to support our various impact programs such as Bed Time in a Box, Kindergarten Jumpstart, K-3 Tutoring, VITA tax service, Charity Tracker, the Homeless Task Force and Wabash Valley Connect
Lilly comes through again with matching dollars from campaign and events.

Library Board Approves use of Annex by Samaritan Center
In a new initiative to intercept individuals with Homeless, Mental Health, and Substance Abuse issues and offer on site case management services, the KCPL approved an agreement with Samaritan Center to begin services at the Library Annex led by Vanessa Phillips. The program was initially supported by the United Way of Knox County through the Wave 2 Lilly grant program. This program will be the counties first step towards identifying homeless and building a referral program to assist with this need.
