Council Discusses Maintenance of Residential Screening Walls | |
Over the last few months, several single-family residential neighborhoods have reached out to staff requesting that repairs be made to their perimeter screening walls. The requested repairs are associated with walls that have not been historically maintained by the Parks Department. Most of the walls in question are located on private property and there is no record of a wall maintenance easement on the plat. At the September 27 City Council Work Session, Parks and Recreation Director Janna Tidwell shared with Council maps that identified single-family residential masonry perimeter screening walls in Town and their known maintenance responsibilities.
Council directed staff to conduct more research and provide additional information regarding ownership of the walls and a description of the wall maintenance easements that are in place. You can watch the Council's screening walls discussion here and read the presentation here.

Council Approves Fiscal Year 2022 Budget Amendment
Each year, the Finance Department reviews the budget to determine which items should be recognized with formal budget amendments. When budget variances occur that are outside of the authority of the City Manager, these adjustments are presented to the Council in the form of a budget amendment. The Fiscal Year (FY) 2022 budget was adopted by Council on September 14, 2021. At its September 27 meeting, the Council approved the second amendment for the FY2022 budget.
Major items in the amendment include funding for additional water usage by the Parks Department due to the hot summer; retirement vacation payouts and overfill positions for the Fire Department; Holiday in the Park; and a transfer to the Facility Maintenance Fund. These additional appropriations are offset by increased sales tax revenue of $969,000 resulting in a net impact of $0 to the General Fund.
Additionally, the budget amendment authorizes the City Manager to transfer unexpended appropriations and excess revenue from the Fiscal Year 2021-2022 budget to the Self-Funded Special Projects Fund. The amount of this transfer (if applicable) will be known in late November 2022 after the Town has recorded all revenues and expenditures for Fiscal Year 2021-2022. The Fiscal Year 2021-2022 estimate included in the Fiscal Year 2022-2023 budget included an estimated transfer amount of $1,400,000.

| Sooner Fans Converge on Addison for Red River Showdown | | |
Since 2016, the Renaissance Addison Dallas has served as the host hotel for the OU Club of Dallas during the Red River Showdown, the annual football game between the University of Oklahoma and the University of Texas which is played at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas. The Club recently extended its contract for up to another five years. This partnership, which Addison's Economic Development and Tourism Department supports through a yearly sponsorship of $5,000, not only sells out the 528-room Renaissance, but visitors also overflow into many other local Addison hotels. The Club uses the Town's sponsorship to help provide scholarships to local Dallas students interested in attending OU.
Not only are many Addison hotels booked during this famous rival weekend, but Addison restaurants also see an increase in business. In an effort to support the local hospitality industry and attract more Sooner fans, Addison's Tourism team purchases ads in the Sooner Spectator, a publication dedicated to the exclusive coverage of University of Oklahoma athletics. The Town also displays a banner over Belt Line to welcome these guests to Addison.
Addison has a similar relationship with other organizations, including the Dallas Cup, that provides a city-wide economic impact. If you know of an organization that is interested in making Addison their home away from home for an event or conference, please contact Addison's Tourism Manager Alisha Holmberg at aholmberg@addisontx.gov.
