City Council Updates

Council Reviews Addison’s Signature Events

At the February 25 City Council meeting, Special Events & Theatre Director Abby Morales presented an overview of Addison’s three signature events—Taste Addison, Addison Kaboom Town!, and Addison Oktoberfest. She discussed the history, goals, and impact of each event and the Council shared their input on what success looks like for the event moving into the 2025 event season.

Addison events continue to be a major draw, attracting 392,500 visitors in 2024 and generating a combined $7.5 million economic impact. The presentation highlighted key successes, including a 41% increase in concession sales at Addison Kaboom Town!, Taste Addison’s expanded festival footprint, and new experiences introduced at Addison Oktoberfest. The Council also discussed strategies to build on these successes for the Fiscal Year 2026 season.

Council Approves Creation of the Addison Tourism Public Improvement District

The Addison City Council approved the creation of the Addison Tourism Public Improvement District (TPID) at its February 25 meeting. A TPID is a dedicated funding mechanism designed to enhance tourism marketing and attract convention and group business to Addison

The TPID will assess a 2% fee on taxable room sales at hotels with 50 or more rooms, generating an estimated $15.8 million over 10 years. These funds will be allocated toward marketing, sales, administration, and tourism research, with oversight from a board composed of Addison hoteliers. The TPID will officially launch on April 1, 2025, with the first remittances due in May.

This initiative will provide a sustainable investment in Addison’s tourism economy, further strengthening the Town’s position as a premier destination.

Addison City Council Supports Full Funding for DART and Public Transit Investment

At its February 25 meeting, the Addison City Council approved a resolution in support of fully funding Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) at the current $0.01 sales tax level and urging continued investment in public transit. This follows a presentation by DART representatives at the February 11 work session, where they provided an update on governance and service. The resolution affirms Addison’s commitment to maintaining and enhancing regional transit services.

Council Reviews Draft Unified Development Code

Director of Development and Neighborhood Services Lesley Nyp presented the current draft of Addison's Unified Development Code (UDC) at the February 25 City Council meeting. Initiated in 2019, this comprehensive project will consolidate and update the Town's development regulations—including zoning, subdivision, and sign ordinances—into a clear and enforceable UDC that reflects Addison's vision for the future.

The drafting process involved extensive collaboration among Town staff, the UDC Advisory Committee, the Planning & Zoning Commission, and the City Council. Key features of the proposed UDC include streamlined development review procedures, improved development standards, and updated sign regulations.

An additional City Council Work Session is scheduled for March 4, 2025, to further discuss the draft UDC, with proposed adoption planned for March 25, 2025.

AT&T PEG Channel 99 Currently Unavailable

The Town’s AT&T PEG channel (Channel 99) is currently experiencing technical issues. AT&T is aware of the problem and is actively working on a resolution, which is expected to take a few more weeks. In the meantime, AT&T subscribers can still watch City Council and Planning & Zoning Commission meetings live and on demand on the Town’s website.

We appreciate your patience as AT&T works to restore service.

Beltway Drive Greenspace Improvements Underway

Addison's selected contractor for the Beltway Drive greenspace project, C Green Scaping of Fort Worth, began work last week. They installed tree protection fencing around the park's trees and removed the small sidewalk along Beltway Drive. Next week, weather permitting, they will bring in planting mix for new plant beds and perform specialized restorative work in the heavily shaded area at the west end of the park. The Town's professional landscape architecture and arborist staff carefully planned and will closely monitor the project.

New Traffic Signal at Lindbergh and Midway

to be Installed March 1

As part of the Midway Road Revitalization Project, the traffic signal system at the Lindbergh Drive intersection will be taken out of service on Saturday, March 1, for replacement. During this time, the intersection will operate as a four-way stop for most of the day, and rolling lane closures will occur.

Expect traffic delays in the area. Please use caution, follow posted signage, and be mindful of barricades while traveling through the work zone.

Meanwhile, landscape crews are making progress on the northern segment of the project, north of Belt Line Road. They are grading and preparing for sod installation, while stone veneer installation has recently been completed on several new retaining wall sections.

Thank you for your patience as we strive to make Addison a better place to live, work, and play.
