Council Approves New For-Sale Townhomes on Airport Parkway | | Making Addison Easier to Navigate on Foot | | |
Budget conversations continued at Tuesday’s City Council meeting, with Public Works and Engineering Director Becky Diviney highlighting completed, underway, and planned pedestrian improvements throughout Addison.
As part of the proposed FY2027 Budget, staff presented plans for pedestrian improvements at Belt Line Road and the Dallas North Tollway, beginning on the south side of the intersection. While the Town has a larger vision for improving this crossing, broader improvements will require coordination with the City of Dallas and the North Texas Tollway Authority. In the meantime, staff proposed a plan to move forward with enhancements including planters and lighting to help make the crossing safer and more visible.
Council also discussed potential improvements at Midway Road and Beltway Drive to make crossing Midway safer and more visible.

| | New Rides Roll Into Service at Addison Fire Department | | |
The Addison Fire Department celebrated a proud moment this week as its newest Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF) vehicle and Squad 101 were officially placed into service during a traditional push-in ceremony.
The time-honored fire service tradition brought together firefighters, Mayor Bruce Arfsten, Council Members Schnell Blanton and Marlin Willesen, City Manager David Gaines, and Deputy City Manager Passion Hayes, along with Town staff and community members to help push the new apparatus into the station. Addison Airport funded the purchase of both vehicles, providing AFD with additional resources to support emergency response in the community and specialized operations at Addison Airport.
Bringing the new apparatus into service was a team effort. Thank you to the AFD Apparatus Committee, led by Battalion Chief Matt Ferguson, General Services, Metro Fire Apparatus Specialists, Kuster Sign Company, Town leadership, AFD members, and everyone who helped make the project and celebration possible.
And, after plenty of creative suggestions from the community and a vote by AFD members, Addison's newest blue ARFF officially has a name. Meet "Papa Smurf!"

| | Bob Baumann and The House of Baumann | |
Some of Addison’s greatest gems are the people whose stories are woven into the community, and Bob Baumann is certainly one of them.
Bob grew up near Belt Line and Montfort, not far from where his business stands today. He began driving trucks while he was still in high school and was driving 18-wheelers by the time he was in his twenties. His life took an unexpected turn at 26 when a friend introduced him to legendary motivational speaker Zig Ziglar. That introduction eventually led to a job on Zig’s sales team, where Bob quickly became the company’s top salesperson.
The experience changed more than Bob’s career. Going from the cab of a truck to showing up for work in a suit and tie, he was struck by how differently people responded to him. He was the same person, but the way he presented himself changed how others saw him and, ultimately, how he saw himself.
That lesson stayed with him.
After several years with Zig, Bob joined entrepreneur Carl Westcott in a pioneering satellite television training business headquartered on Arapaho Road. The experience eventually gave Bob the opportunity to start a company of his own, and in 1991, The House of Baumann was born.
And he didn’t go far. The company’s first location was on Westgrove Drive before moving about 10 years later to Addison Road and eventually to its current home at 4900 Arapaho Road. For someone who grew up nearby, it is fitting that Bob has spent decades building his business in the same community.
Today, The House of Baumann offers much more than custom suits. Bob and his team have built an experience around craftsmanship, personal relationships, and his belief that confidence can be transformative. In fact, Bob will tell you they aren’t really in the clothing business at all. His goal is to make a difference in people’s lives.
Even the showroom reflects that philosophy and Bob’s unmistakable personality. He designed the space himself, incorporating unexpected details throughout, including actual shipping containers that can be transformed for special displays and events. Custom clothing is made in the United States, Canada, and Italy, and clients come from well beyond North Texas to experience the highly personal approach Bob and his team have created.
Now Bob is putting some of the lessons behind that philosophy on paper. His upcoming book, The First Seven Seconds, explores first impressions and the judgments people make before a conversation has even really begun.
After a lifetime spent in and around Addison, Bob’s connection to the community runs deep. And while The House of Baumann may be known for impeccable custom clothing, spend a little time with Bob and it quickly becomes clear that, to him, the clothes have never been the whole story.
It’s about confidence. It’s about relationships. And above all, it’s about people.
| A Colorful Look at Midcentury Technology | |
The Addison Art Gallery welcomes Technology and Midcentury America, a new exhibit featuring the work of Texas artist Blake Harris. An artist, graphic designer, and creative director since the 1990s, Harris draws from his experience in the advertising industry to explore the connections between technology, consumerism, branding, and design.
In Technology and Midcentury America, Harris looks back at the personal technologies and distinctive industrial design of the midcentury era. His paintings capture a time when everyday devices were designed with unique shapes, colors, and personalities, before much of today’s technology evolved into the sleek glass screens that have become part of daily life. You can learn more at addisontx.gov/AddisonArt.
The exhibit is free and open to the public now through September 30 at Addison Town Hall, 15600 Addison Road. Stop by Monday through Friday from 8am to 5pm to explore Harris’ colorful look at the technology and design of another era and how it compares with the devices that surround us today.
