Friendship Academy Partners with Freedom School & Provides Literacy Support

The Children's Defense Fund Freedom Schools® program provides comprehensive, culturally-relevant enrichment programs to children and it helps children fall in love with reading, increases their self-esteem, generates more positive attitudes toward learning and connects their families with needed resources.
At Friendship we are proud to offer enriching after school programming! Here is a picture of our Freedom School After School Program keeping the #LightsonAfterSchool
Congratulations to Ms. Hill
for receiving the Teacher Supply Box Award.
Kids in Need Foundation states the number of applications that came in for this program was frankly overwhelming, stressing the point that to be chosen her application was pretty special! www.kinf.org
Friendship Academy is a Leader in Me School and Great Does Happen Here
What is a Leader in Me School you ask?
It is a Whole- School Transformation Process. The Leader in Me is FranklinCovey's whole school transformation process. It teaches 21st century leadership and life skills to students and creates a culture of student empowerment based on the idea that every child can be a leader.
Stephen R. Covey's "The Leader In Me" is Inspiring Greatness, One Child at a time at Friendship Academy of the Arts. Watch the Kindergarten scholars express the 7 Habits in their own way through song and movement. Friendship Academy of the Arts is a small K-6 charter school in south Minneapolis that teaches children to be competent, confident, creative citizens through arts integration.
   FAA 5th Grader's Brings Back a WIN!!!

One FAA 5th grade scholar states:  "although they were very nervous that the ballroom dance competition was a lot of fun."
Dancing classrooms offers schools the option to participate in a Colors of the Rainbow Team Match (COR). The Team Match is a ballroom dance competition for children participating in the Dancing Classrooms program for the first time. While COR is a competition, the intent is for the young ladies and gentlemen to have a relaxed and enjoyable time while representing their schools.

The event includes several rounds of competition featuring different styles of Ballroom dance and the dancers showcased the rumba, foxtrot, tango, and other dances.
Where are they now? FAA Alumni
Hello, hello, hello! My name is Nesani Sabal, and you have guessed, I am a Friendship alumni. I am currently enrolled at Minneapolis Community and Technical College majoring in Liberal Arts. I plan on transferring to a four year university in the near future. I work with the Minneapolis Youth Congress under the Youth Coordinating Board to help make decisions
I work with the Minneapolis Youth Congress under the Youth Coordinating Board to help make decisions the effect young people. I have the opportunity to meet with important and influential people such city officials, board members for school and parks, and community members just to name a dew. I also work for We Win Institute, and after school program that ensures that kids, particularly kids of color know how important they are. This passion for supporting children started here at Friendship! As a fourth grader, I loved when my teacher, Ms. Cotton would allow us to go and help out the younger students once our work was done. She helped instill that working and helping together makes us greater which I still believe. Because of this belief you will continue to see me visiting, volunteering and caring so much for Friendship. I really did enjoy my time here at Friendship, and it will always be like a second home to me. One love, from Miss Nesani Sabal.
