Dear friends,
I know that my opponent sent four mailers yesterday riddled with inaccuracies and misrepresentations of my record. Yet again, I am disappointed by my opponent's actions, and I want to reach out directly to set the record straight.
My fight is – and always will be – for the people without money, power, or political connections to make sure they are at the table, heard, and served. My record is about making a difference by taking on the powers that be to demand justice and action for those who might otherwise be ignored.
And now, in this campaign, I face an opponent with no record, working desperately throughout the past few months – and especially now, in the closing days – to mislead you about my record in a flurry of mail that is dishonest at best. They continue to cherry pick procedural votes and singular donations to construct a false narrative about who I am, what I do, and where my values lie.
Let me be clear: my record is about fighting for our community, our values, and delivering tangible progressive results. My opponent has no record to run on, so they have no option other than lying about me and my record.
Here are the facts.
I have spent years fighting for people who have the least political power. That is the record my opponent is trying to run against.
I am the legislator who speaks truth to power and the disruptor in the State House when that is what it takes to protect people who otherwise would not have a powerful voice.
I have fought to increase rental assistance and housing vouchers, providing families with more resources to help them find stable housing and avoid eviction. I have fought for policies that offer people who are unhoused more dignity and agency. And I have passed legislation that makes it possible for Massachusetts to build more affordable housing. I have and continue to support rent control.
I fought to make sure transgender young people and their families could continue to access gender-affirming care in Massachusetts. I have fought year after year to increase cash assistance for people who are working, raising families, or struggling to survive but still cannot make ends meet. I have been nationally recognized for helping lead the passage of some of the strongest gun laws in the country. I chaired the state's Special Commission on Racial Inequities in Maternal Health, brought hundreds of families of color into that process, and helped turn their experiences into legislation designed to save lives. And I have fought for children's mental health and helped pass legislation that expands services and resources for children and families.
My opponent and I have raised nearly the same amount of money from Cambridge donors. This makes up a smaller percentage of my fundraising because there are advocates statewide, Reproductive rights, LGBTQ+, environmental, housing advocates and more, who have worked with me and want to see me reelected.
I have disclosed my outside employment every year as required by law. I am proud of that work because it connects individuals with people who can help them stand up to powerful corporate interests.
My opponent can't run against my record, because they have no record. After a decade in Cambridge, they still live in subsidized student housing, and, as recently as five years ago, were still a registered Republican.
Please stand up to the lies and stand with me. I will always stand with you.
Sincerely,
Marjorie
