Hereford Genetic Summit Highlights Online
Sept. 1 began fiscal year 2015 for the American Hereford Association (AHA). As the new AHA year began, Hereford enthusiasts joined in Springfield, Mo., Sept. 4-5 for the Hereford Genetic Summit.
A dynamic, thought-provoking set of industry leaders shared their insights and challenged attendees to think about the future of the breed and their individual operations during the Hereford Genetic Summit. NHW Annual Meeting Date Set
The National Hereford Women (NHW) invite all members and prospective members to attend the NHW annual meeting from noon to 1 p.m. CST Saturday, Nov. 1 at the Kansas City Marriott Downtown. NHW will be sharing updates about the organization’s programs and projects along with honoring the 2014 Outstanding Hereford Woman. Meet and greet opportunity with the 2014 National Hereford Queen candidates and networking will be a focus. Transportation will be provided after the meeting to and from the American Royal.

Heifer Mart at the National Western Stock Show
The Heifer Mart is an exciting marketing opportunity for cattle producers to take advantage of at the National Western Stock Show (NWSS). Cattlemen can enter groups of three to 10 head of either heifer calves or bred yearlings. There is a designated area in the Yards just south of the Stockyard Arena set up for the Heifer Mart where these cattle are displayed on tie rails. There is no show associated with these cattle. These females are on display with the intention of selling them by private treaty or for breeders to have an opportunity to display their breeding program as a part of their overall marketing program.
The Heifer Mart will accommodate cattle by breed during the same time periods that each respective breed arrives and is released from the Yards. These schedules and more information can be found in the NWSS Premium Book, on the NWSS website or by calling the NWSS Livestock office at 303-299-5559.
Seeking Cowtown Invitational Sale Nominations
Plan now to bring your best to the National Hereford Show and Cowtown Invitational Sale in Fort Worth, Feb. 1-2. The Texas Hereford Association sale staff is seeking elite herd bulls, show heifer and donor cow prospects, embryos, flushes and pregnancies. New Iowa Hereford Influenced Female Sale
The Iowa Hereford Breeders Association (IHBA) announces the first IHBA Hereford Influence Female Sale at noon Saturday, Nov. 15 at the Creston Livestock Auction in Creston, Iowa.
This will be a great opportunity for Iowa producers to market Hereford-influenced females in an exclusively Hereford genetics venue. This non-fit sale is open to all producers using Hereford genetics. All females with white marking on their face and not exhibiting continental breed features are eligible as “Hereford influenced.” IHBA will not be using the CHB rule of 51% of white on face. Any non-qualifying animals will be auctioned after all qualifying females are sold.
IHBA offers this new service to producers using Hereford genetics to maximize the value of their production. This is a great marketing opportunity to bring buyers and producers together.
Seedstock producers, this is a marketing program that will add value for the buyers of your genetics. We are looking for consignments of Hereford influenced females, including commercial or registered Herefords. Replacement heifers, bred heifers or cows or cow-calf pairs, in any lot size or as singles, are all eligible for the sale.
The sale will be promoted by IHBA, Creston Livestock Auction and Lowderman Auction Co. Consignments will be accepted up to sale date but consignments made by Oct. 1 will be eligible for individual listing in advertisements and detailed listings on the IHBA website.

Free BQA Certification
For the third time, Boehringer Ingelheim Vetmedica, Inc. (BIVI) is supporting the checkoff-funded Beef Quality Assurance (BQA) program by sponsoring all online certifications this fall for producers who enroll from Sept. 1 to Oct. 31.
