Open house offers chance to learn more about new Athens medical education facility 

Heritage College, Athens faculty, staff and students are invited to attend an upcoming Athens campus event to learn more about a transformational construction project that will create a new medical education building for the college, which will anchor a new university green on West Union Street.

The Open House event is scheduled for 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. on  Thursday, Aug. 30, on The Bricks in Irvine Hall. Those who attend  will have an opportunity to learn about the preliminary building design and plans to support student success, faculty development and outreach to the OHIO community. 

The event will feature a virtual reality activity offering an "inside out" view of the planned facility, and attendees are invited to offer feedback on the preliminary design. Snacks will be provided.

Construction at the West Union site will include the new medical education build and administrative building occupancy for the existing Human Resources and Training Center on West Union.

Those who cannot attend are urged to be on the lookout for invitations to future engagement opportunities. Questions should be addressed to  Noël Davis at

Beverly named associate editor at JAOA

Elizabeth Beverly, Ph.D., assistant professor of f amily medicine, has been named an associate editor of the Journal of the American Osteopathic Association. Established in 1901, JAOA is the official scientific publication of the American Osteopathic Association, and the premier scholarly, peer-reviewed publication of the osteopathic medical profession. Robert Orenstein, D.O., is editor in chief.

Faculty book earns media attention

A new book by Jacqueline Wolf, Ph.D., professor of social medicine, was published in June by Johns Hopkins University Press. "Cesarean Section: An American History of Risk, Technology, and Consequence." has already been featured in multiple media outlets, including an op-ed by Dr. Wolf in the Los Angeles Times, a guest piece she wrote for the Huffington Post, and a story in Slate. Dr. Wolf has also discussed her work on WOUB Public Media's Spectrum podcast, and on Jennifer Grayson's Uncivilize podcast. For links to this coverage, see "In the News" section, below.
