November 4, 2020 Meeting
Gentle Reminder
The pandemic has created "brain fog" in many of us. With everything on hold and so little structure, it can be hard to keep track of things, even remembering what day it is!

So in that spirit, this is a gentle reminder. For those who may not remember if they paid their 2020-2021 dues, please contact Rosina Chevalier.
Renewal time is now.
The dues remain $30.

Community Outreach
Phase One delivery of the Safe Periods for the Next Generation feminine hygiene pad donation drive is now complete. Thanks to the ample generosity of you, our members and friends of the HHWC, we not only met but amazingly exceeded our initial goal of 50 personal boxes of pads for Hamilton and Hogg Middle Schools.

We delivered a total of 201 boxes to Alexander Hamilton Middle School - Houston ISD , Hogg Middle School and Heights High School.

Phase One consisted of your actual pad donations and Heritage Group financial donations. A huge thank-you to Amy Amos for coordinating Phase One from start to finish! And an extra thank-you to her husband Lee for assisting with delivery logistics! Amy makes these projects look easy but we know a lot of attention to detail is necessary and appreciate her conscientious dedication all the more!
Phase Two is now in the coordinating stages with more details to follow soon.
Sharing a few thank-you excerpts direct to you the donors:

From Hogg MS: "We are thankful for your partnership. Please tell all of the members of the Houston Heights Woman’s Club that we are so appreciative."

From Hamilton MS a pre-delivery message: "Thank you in advance for supporting the community!"

From Heights HS: "Thank you SO MUCH AMY and the Houston Heights Women's Club!! Oh my, y'all are really thinking beyond the walls and truly giving where needs are."
Veterans Day Walk - November 11
Because of the pandemic, there will be no Veterans Day parades this year, but we can honor our veterans living as well as those who have passed.

Join us on a short walk to the Heights World War II Memorial Plaza at Heights and 11th. The Memorial features a semicircle wall, filled with names of Houston Heights soldiers who served in World War II, and highlighting the 224 young men who were killed in war. It’s a somber, peaceful and hopeful spot to review those who came before us and those who are yet to come.

Let's meet up, masked up, and socially distanced at Marmion Park. (18th and Heights Blvd.) We will walk down esplanade to 11th Street. Then take some time at the Memorial.

We will walk back to Marmion Park and regroup for socializing. Bring a packed lunch, a beverage, and a lawn chair.

There will be no organized carpooling, but feel free to make your own arrangements. As this is an outdoor activity, it is weather dependent.

October Recap
October Meeting
A virtual Witches Hat Cat Walk, fabulous conversations and an Over the Top presentation on voting during a pandemic held our members' attention at the monthly meeting.

Thank you to our featured speakers, members Karen Adams and Janet Pelletier, for their detailed insight on the voting process in addition to sharing personal experiences as poll workers. And for wearing coordinating patriotically themed hats. It's those finishing touches that truly complete the scene!

Thank-you to all who were able to join us. In case you missed it, here is a link to a recording of the October Meeting.
Congratulations to Carolyn Jackson for winning the Best Witches Hat door prize!

We should add that Carolyn has been creatively decorating massive quantities of lunch bags for Kids' Meals, Inc., one of our favorite partnering organizations. Kudos to Carolyn for putting her talents to such loving results.
October Event
Staying Connected with Heritage Group members along a leisurely stroll through the newly completed Eastern Glades at Memorial Park Conservancy.

We found plenty of space to social distance and delight in calm outdoor surroundings while renewing friendships. Just being able to see each other in person was such a gift!
