October Lunch
We will resume our Potluck Lunch tradition while continuing to offer the Brown Bag option for those preferring a personal lunch.

If I bring a dish for potluck,
what should I bring?
Something tasty! We don’t try to coordinate what members bring. Sometimes we have themes for our menus, but these are suggestions.

If you don’t have time or the inclination to cook, just buy it, put it in a nice dish, and tell us it is an old family recipe.

As for how much – you don’t need to bring enough for 40, just bring a good sized family portion – whatever your recipe says and fits in your casserole dish or bowl. Bring a serving utensil, spoon or fork.

Be sure to grab your casserole dish or platter as well as your serving utensil after lunch.

Communities In Schools Kickoff - Volunteers
The Evening Group is looking for volunteers to plan and host an October party for the Heights High School Communities in Schools (CIS) participants.

The CIS Counselors have selected Gratitude as the theme for this very simple but meaningful gathering. No experience is required and time commitment is small   The students in this program truly appreciate these events and our club's continued support.

The proposed date is October 19 during the lunch hour. Even if you can't help at the event, we can still use your help to prepare. Please contact Kathy Wilson to volunteer or with any questions about the Evening Group planned activities for CIS during the 2022-2023 school year.
September Kickoff Recap
The mid-morning sultry heat of a September morn offered no autumnal hint of respite, yet failed to faze members and guests attending the 2022 Heritage Group Kick-off Luncheon! Our Members were greeted by clubhouse resplendently adorned with a yellow rose theme in a nod to our club flower, the Maréchal Neil Rose.
Smiles and animated conversations were everywhere as members greeted each other with affectionate enthusiasm after the summer hiatus.
We were thrilled to meet guests and new members including a sizable contingent from our most-favorite neighboring state, la belle Louisianne, plus Belgium and the UK.
President Rosina Chevalier welcomed all, giving an enlightening overview of club history and community service projects from the early days into the present inspiring us all to follow in the footsteps of our founding foremothers in the club's 122 years.
Appreciative thanks and heartfelt accolades to the Kick-off Committee led by Rebecca Marek and her team, including Karen Adams, Amy Amos, Cynthia Bonner, Tiffany McMillan, Linda Navarro, Barbara Roberts, Liz Ruthven, Robin Swinney and Gloria Wilson. We remain in awe of committee's attentive diligence to detail and those finishing touches delicately completing the setting.
Community Outreach
Books and Goody Bags
The Women's Studies Library Initiative  (WSLI) continues the club's tradition of literacy and women's history by ensuring our local public school libraries have a rich collection of books on women's history. Ten books are selected by the each of the nine Heights HISD librarians

Thank you to Karen Adams, Amy Amos, Edda Ertunca, Mary Eyuboglu, Teresa Matlock, and Barbara Mercer who delivered books and goody bags to 9 Heights area schools on September 23rd.

Special thanks to Linda Navarro for sponsoring goody bags for the librarians that accompanied the book delivery.
Annual School Uniform Drive
The 2022 School Uniform Drive has successfully concluded. Thanks to the very generous support of our members and the Heights community this campaign raised $2,500 and collected over 360 uniform items.

With these donations and using remaining funds from the Spring Refugee Appeal, over 800 articles of clothing were delivered to four elementary and two middle schools this month.
