FROM YOUR PASTOR’S HEART . . . Our WORK as WORSHIP!

2 Thessalonians 3:12 says, 12 Now we command and exhort such people by the Lord Jesus Christ to work quietly and provide for themselves. This week, Paul tells the Thessalonian church that all Christians should work to provide for themselves and their families. Work is an act of worship. Later, Paul says in the letter to the Colossian church in chapter 3, 23Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, 24since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.

For all of us, our work should be an offering of worship, a sacrifice to the LORD! Providing for ourselves and our families, unless we are disabled and unable to work, is an apostolic command. What you do as a homemaker, as a doctor, as a business leader, student, educator, civic leader, factory worker, retired person, when done for the LORD, is a sweet aroma of love to the One who made us and saves us. That should bring us great joy and satisfaction as we know it pleases the LORD.

Sunday morning, we will have copies of the latest update of the lease agreement that the Heritage Lease Task Force has negotiated with the city of Van Buren for the Community Center proposal. Please pick up a copy. Read it and note your questions. We will have a CHURCH CONFERENCE to vote on the lease agreement on Sunday, August 3, at 4:30 p.m. in the Heritage sanctuary. Rev. Clark Atkins, our presiding elder for Western Arkansas, will lead the meeting. We will have 1) a presentation of the motion, 2) an explanation of the conference rules, 3) a time for corporate prayer, 4) a presentation of the key points of the final lease agreement, 5) a time for questions and answers, 6) speeches for and against the motion, 7) a secret ballot vote, and 8) a reporting of the vote and next steps (regardless of which way the decision goes).

This is a VERY IMPORTANT decision for the future of Heritage. Everyone who considers Heritage his/her church home is invited and encouraged to come. Only official members of Heritage are able to vote.

Blessed to be doing the work of the LORD with you!

Whether you’re a long time Heritage member or new to our congregation, we want you! No experience necessary—just a warm heart and a willingness to show up a little early.
