Reflections from Head of School Brian Goodbar

Dear Heritage Community,

This is an exciting time to be part of our community! We’ve increased our enrollment by 20 students (10%) from last year. I have already interviewed over 20 new students for the 2025-2026 school year, along with four PreK students for the 2026-2027 school year. With the advent of Education Savings Accounts (ESAs), Christian schools in Iowa are experiencing enrollment spikes across the state.

Iowa Statewide Assessment of Student Progress (ISASP)

2024 Testing Results

Each year, students at Heritage Christian School take standardized tests. This past March our students took the Iowa Statewide Assessment of Student Progress (ISASP).

This test serves many purposes for our school and our students and measures student achievement and growth across different subjects. The results help parents and teachers identify a student’s academic strengths and monitor a student’s progress over time.

It also allows us to compare their academic performance to other students in the state allowing Heritage to formulate decisions on curriculum and instruction.

Outstanding results for Heritage students:

Theme Verse

Our theme for the school year is Run the Race based on

Hebrews 12:1-2a "Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus."

This is exactly what we desire for every student, staff member, and family at Heritage Christian School, to carry out our "race" fixing our eyes on Jesus. Our hope is that we will be examples to our students and their families as we learn and grow in Christ this year.

Alli Olsen Memorial

Outdoor Learning Space

On the last day of 4th grade at Heritage in 2021, sweet Alli Olsen was tragically killed in an automobile accident. Alli was most at home enjoying God's creation and was fearlessly adventurous. This past summer, Heritage built and dedicated an outdoor learning space to honor her memory. While the brightness of her smile and infectious laughter is greatly missed, our prayer is that all who visit this shelter will experience and enjoy the beauty of God's creation around them just the way Alli did.
