Skip the Fever, not the Vaccine!

Flu season is upon us, as we are all aware! According to CDC.gov, getting a yearly flu vaccination is the best way to reduce the risk from flu and its potentially serious complications. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends annual influenza vaccination of all children without medical contraindications starting at 6 months of age. People with severe, life-threatening allergies to flu vaccine or any ingredient in the vaccine should not get a flu shot. Speak with your physician before getting a flu vaccine if you have concerns or are not feeling well.

People with the flu are most contagious during the first three to four days after symptoms begin, but can pass the flu on to others up to five to seven days after becoming sick. Staying home until you've been fever-free for at least 24 hours (without fever reducers) is key to preventing spread, along with frequent handwashing and masks.

Flu vaccines are available at any Heritage Valley ConvenientCare site during regular business hours, which are Monday – Saturday from 8 am – 7:30 pm. High dose flu vaccines are available for those 65 years of age and older. Click here for a listing of our ConvenientCare locations.

Meet Winslow and Bruce!

Winslow and Bruce are eagerly awaiting the return of their Heritage Valley School of Nursing classmates for the start of the spring semester! These training mannequins help our first and second-year students practice real-world scenarios through pop-up simulations in the classroom. From communication skills to hands-on clinical techniques and emergent situations, Winslow and Bruce make learning engaging, safe, and interactive. Plus, our students love working with them as they develop essential skills and build confidence.
