Heritage Valley's LungCare Program

HVMG Pulmonology & Sleep Medicine

November is lung cancer awareness month, which makes this a great time to talk about the Heritage Valley LungCare program. There are many reasons why your physician may refer you to Heritage Valley Pulmonology & Sleep Medicine and our LungCare program. Perhaps you recently had an x-ray or CT of your lungs that showed an abnormality, or you have a history of multiple lung infections. If you are a previous or current smoker, you may want to talk to your physician about scheduling a Low Dose CT Lung Cancer Screening.

At Heritage Valley Pulmonology & Sleep Medicine, we see patients on a daily basis who have abnormal chest/lung imaging results. Fortunately, our comprehensive LungCare program staff is available to diagnose and treat these issues. Our providers have trained at university medical centers all over the country, and are able to provide the latest techniques, such as Robotic Bronchoscopy. Our goal is to ensure that every patient has the best possible outcome and experience, from screening through treatment, and has access to our experienced multidisciplinary physicians and clinical team.

We strive to see new patients with abnormal test results within 48 business hours, and our wait times for procedures are much shorter than those at larger healthcare systems. This means that our patients receive answers and treatment more quickly.

Heritage Valley Pulmonology & Sleep Medicine has offices in both Heritage Valley Beaver and Heritage Valley Sewickley hospitals. Please call 724-773-6403 to schedule an appointment in Beaver and 412-749-7160 to schedule an appointment in the Sewickley office.

Preparing for Your Physician Office Visit

Preparing for a physician visit can sometimes feel a bit overwhelming. Here are some tips to help you get ready:

  • Prioritize your concerns and questions and write them down.

  • Write down any symptoms you are having, including when they began, how long they have lasted, and what makes them worse.

  • Make a list of all medications that you take, including dosages and whether there have been any recent changes by another physician. Circle medications that need a refill. Note if the cost of your medication is unaffordable and discuss this with your physician at your upcoming appointment.

  • Always bring your ID, insurance cards and any updated Medical documents. Examples include medical records from an outside facility, updated Medical Power of Attorney or Advanced Directive/Living Will documents.

  • Complete any ordered lab work or imaging tests at least a few days prior to your appointment, so that your physician can review the results with you during your upcoming visit.

Always be honest with your physician so that you get the most out of your office visit. And remember to make your next appointment before you leave!

Anthony

Radiologic Technologist, Center Township (Monaca) Medical Neighborhood

Meeting new patients and making their visits as comfortable, easy and efficient as possible is Anthony’s favorite part of his job. Anthony has been a Registered Radiologic Technologist at Heritage Valley for 20 years, 16 of which were spent at Heritage Valley Sewickley. For the past four years, he has enjoyed being a Specialty Technologist at the Center Township (Monaca) Medical Neighborhood.

As a Specialty Tech, Anthony is responsible not only for taking x-rays, but also for registering patients, performing after-hours lab draws, and assisting staff in other areas of the Medical Neighborhood when needed.  What makes working at Heritage Valley special to Anthony are the employees, his coworkers and the friendships he has developed over the years. He also believes strongly in creating collaborative relationships with other offices and departments, all in his efforts to create the best possible experience for Heritage Valley patients.

A Word from Our Patients ...

  • I want to say to the Heritage Valley Rehab in Monaca thank you for everything! I will continue my exercises at home.

  • Everyone took excellent care of my Dad in the Heritage Valley Beaver Critical Care Unit. Staff also kept me well informed about my Dad's care. The HVB Critical Care team is excellent.

  • I want to thank all the staff who helped me after my Total Knee Arthroplasty (TKA). Dr. Stephen Thomas was my surgeon and everyone worked so well together. Any time I had to get up or ask about anything, staff stepped up quickly and efficiently with a smile. Everyone’s combined attitudes and personalities were very encouraging during my post-op time. (Heritage Valley Sewickley)

  • Employees were wonderful. Very friendly and informative. Got me in and out very quickly. Would highly recommend! (Center Township/Monaca ConvenientCare)

  • Everyone was very friendly and helpful. My Nurse Practitioner was so nice and caring. She explained the diagnosis and treatment in a very thorough and easy-to-understand way. She also suggested a vitamin regimen to help boost my immune system and encouraged me to get established with a PCP. I cannot say enough how grateful I am for the care she provided. What a nice person. (Chippewa ConvenientCare)
