October 11, 2024

Heritage Valley Health System's E-Connections newsletter is published bi-weekly.

Our next issue will be Friday, October 25.

It's Time to Think Pink

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, an annual campaign to raise awareness about the impact of breast cancer. According to the American Association for Cancer Research, breast cancer is considered to be the most common type of non-skin cancer in women in the United States, and is second to lung cancer as a cause of cancer death in American women.

At Heritage Valley, we want to make sure that every woman has access to the services she needs and the support she deserves. BreastCare is our comprehensive, integrated breast health care program. The primary locations for the program are the Heritage Valley Women’s Health Centers in Center Township and Robinson Township. We are proud to note that each of the Heritage Valley Women’s Health Centers is designated as a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology (ACR).

The Heritage Valley BreastCare program offers a range of services, from screening and diagnostic breast imaging to treatments for breast cancer. All these services are available within the Heritage Valley Health System network. Care is delivered by committed, high-quality physicians, so regardless of your situation and treatment plan, you don’t have to travel far for service. Our BreastCare Navigator is specially-trained to work with patients to compassionately coordinate all services.

Beyond the BreastCare program’s homes in Center and Robinson Townships, there are additional screening locations in the Medical Neighborhoods located in Calcutta, OH; Center Township/Monaca; Chippewa; Edgeworth; and Ellwood City.

Self-Requesting Mammograms . . . All of our mammography locations offer Self-Requesting Mammograms, which means that a patient may schedule a screening mammogram without a written order from a physician. To self-schedule, go to My Care Link and click on the Mammography Exam icon.

Walk-in Mammograms . . . On Mondays in the Robinson Township and Ellwood City Medical Neighborhoods, women may walk in and request a screening mammogram. No appointment needed! Simply bring your prescription from your physician.

Screening Mammograms may be scheduled through My Care Link on iHVHS/aHVHS, Heritage Valley’s app. Click here to access My Care Link.

To schedule Breast Imaging Services at any of our locations, call 1-866-901-MAMO (6266). Click here for more information and to visit our website.

Enhanced Online Payment Portal Available

We are pleased to announce new enhancements to our Online Payment Portal! These changes will provide greater convenience and more options to improve your overall payment experience. In fact, many of the new features are the result of patient feedback!

While there are many small improvements, the significant enhancements include:

  • You are now able to log-in using the “account number” from your statement to see all outstanding balances and statements.
  • Pre-defined payment plans will be suggested, if applicable.
  • Recurring payments to be automatically processed can be scheduled.
  • “Electronic Check” (AHC) payments are now accepted.
  • You have the option of saving your preferred payment card in an “electronic wallet” (referred to as “card on file”) for future transactions. This will be convenient when we provide future options later this fall for “text to pay” of co-payments and balances, either prior to or when healthcare services are provided.

Take Charge of Your Healthcare

Now more than ever, it is important to take charge of, and be an active participant in, your own health care to ensure that you are receiving the best possible treatment. Over the next several issues of E-Connections, we will be discussing where to go for care and the Heritage Valley options available to you; the best ways to contact your health care provider; how to prepare for a physician office visit; and what to expect during and after your physician office visit.

Where to Go for Care ... Know Before You Go!

When you have questions or concerns about your health, you want to visit a provider that matches the severity of your medical condition. Below are options provided by Heritage Valley Health System. If you have a life-threatening health concern, please call 911 or go to the nearest Emergency Department.

ConvenientCare: Staffed by Nurse Practitioners, ConvenientCare walk-in clinics are appropriate for minor medical concerns that are not life threatening. We see patients ages 18 months and older. If your physician’s office is closed or you cannot wait for an appointment, our ConvenientCare staff can help. Click here for a list of ConvenientCare walk-in clinic locations.

Primary Care Physician (PCP)Your PCP knows you best. Call with any new concerns, and consider seeing your Primary Care Physician for:

  • General health issues
  • Preventive care
  • Routine check-ups
  • Immunizations and screenings

Download the HVHS app and create a My Care Link account to schedule same-day sick appointments with your PCP. Click here for instructions on creating your My Care Link account.

Emergency Departments are typically best used for immediate treatment of serious injuries or illnesses and are open 24 hours/day, 7 days/week. Heritage Valley’s three Emergency Departments are located within Heritage Valley Beaver, Heritage Valley Kennedy and Heritage Valley Sewickley hospitals.

Click here for a list of symptoms best treated at ConvenientCare walk-in clinics or Emergency Departments.

By downloading the Heritage Valley app and clicking on the “Activity” icon, you can see how many patients are currently at Heritage Valley’s Emergency Departments, ConvenientCare locations and outpatient service facilities. Seeing exactly how many patients are currently at each location can help you decide where to go for care.

The Thanksgiving Day tradition continues! Open to everyone, the Turkey Trot course takes runners and walkers alike on a 5K path through the charming town of Sewickley. The Turkey Trot is a joint project of the Heritage Valley Health System Foundation and the Sewickley Valley YMCA.

The race begins at 8:30 am on Thursday, November 28, 2023 (rain, snow or shine!) at War Memorial Park, 811 Blackburn Road in Sewickley. Awards will be presented at 9:20 am at the finish line.
