Mammograms Save Lives!

As part of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the third Friday in October is designated as National Mammography Day. On this day, and throughout the month, women are encouraged to schedule a mammography appointment. Mammograms are performed to screen healthy women for signs of breast cancer and to evaluate women who may have symptoms. Combining a yearly mammogram, monthly breast self-examination and a yearly clinical breast exam provide women age 40 and over with the best means of early detection of breast abnormalities. When problems are detected early, women have the most hope of controlling or curing a problem.

Self-Requesting Mammograms ... All of our mammography locations listed below offer Self-Requesting Mammograms, which means that patients may schedule screening mammograms without a written order from a physician.

Walk-in Mammograms ... On Mondays in the Robinson Township and Ellwood City Medical Neighborhoods, women may walk in and request a screening mammogram. No appointment needed!

In addition to the Women’s Health Centers in Center Township and Robinson Township, both screening and diagnostic mammography services are offered at the Heritage Valley Edgeworth Medical Neighborhood.

Additional screening sites, located in our Medical Neighborhoods, include:

  • Heritage Valley Calcutta
  • Heritage Valley Center Township (Monaca)
  • Heritage Valley Chippewa
  • Heritage Valley Ellwood City

Robin, Credentialing Specialist

According to her Director, Robin is one of the biggest cheerleaders that Heritage Valley has! During her 35 years with us, Robin has held various positions, including being a Phlebotomist and Processing Tech in the Lab and a Clinical Technician in Heritage Valley Beaver’s Emergency Department. Heritage Valley offers many opportunities in non-patient-care areas, and six years ago Robin decided to join the Medical Staff Office as a Credentialing Specialist for both Heritage Valley Beaver and Heritage Valley Sewickley.

Robin learned that Medical Staff credentialing is the start of patient safety, and supports the health system’s Strategic Imperatives of Quality, Safety and Customer Experience. All practitioners on staff, including physicians, dentists, podiatrists and advanced practice professionals, must go through the credentialing process before they can provide care to our patients. This includes ensuring that all practitioners are properly licensed, have all required certifications, and their education and training align with the privileges they are requesting. This keeps Robin busy, as all practitioners are recredentialed every two years!

Robin enjoys working with all the great people at Heritage Valley, and looks forward to continuing her role on the Heritage Valley team. We are glad that Robin chose to spend her career with us! To see what positions at Heritage Valley might interest you, click here to visit our Careers webpage.

National Physical Therapy Month

Every October we celebrate National Physical Therapy Month to raise awareness about the many benefits of physical therapy. It's also a great opportunity to appreciate what Physical Therapists and Physical Therapy Assistants do to transform lives!

Physical therapists evaluate, treat and educate patients to help prevent or alleviate pain and dysfunction. They use a variety of treatment techniques to increase motion, increase strength, improve balance and decrease pain. The physical therapists at Heritage Valley Health System work in conjunction with your physician to make sure that your treatment plan is individualized to meet your specific needs, taking into consideration any other medical conditions. We help you set realistic targets for recovery and work closely with you to meet those goals. In addition, we respect the relationship that you develop with your therapist and try to make your appointments with the same therapist/assistant each visit to maintain continuity of care.
