Diversity continues to drive destinies at Long Island’s top universities, with another major appointment focused on inclusion. This time, it’s Stony Brook University again, announcing this week the appointment of Judith Brown Clarke – a longtime educator, respected researcher and world-class athlete – as its new chief diversity officer, effective Feb. 17.

Launching more than 1700 talented graduates into a world of challenges and rewards, Stony Brook University will hold its 22nd annual December commencement ceremony, taking place in the Island Federal Credit Union Arena on Friday, December 20. The graduates will join more than 190,000 alumni whose knowledge and skills are currently shaping our future.
Stony Brook alumna Angela Zheng ’19, who received her BA in Multidisciplinary Studies, has been selected for the prestigious and nationally competitive Charles B. Rangel International Affairs Program Graduate Fellowship.
“I have a great picture of Robin Herrnstein helping me haul cement in a wheelbarrow,” said Professor Patricia Wright before the October 18 ceremony that invested her as the Herrnstein Family Endowed Chair in Conservation Biology. “That’s the kind of hands-on people the Herrnsteins are. Their souls are invested in Madagascar.”
Stephen Post is a bioethicist who has studied the relationship between altruism, compassion, happiness, healing and health to conclude that giving can lead to a happier, longer life. He is a pioneer in publishing works regarding ethical aspects of diseases such as Alzheimer’s, an important but neglected issue of the aging population. He is the Founding Director of The Center for Medical Humanities, Compassionate Care and Bioethics center at Stony Brook University.
