As we kick off 2020, our City of Hermosa Beach team would like to wish you the happiest of New Years. The turn of a new year is always a great time to reflect upon the successes of the past year and set goals for the year ahead. Join fellow residents on January 22nd for the South Bay Region's Greater Los Angeles Homeless Count. Accurate, timely data on our homeless population and where they live is a critical tool for our local governments, as we work to secure and direct resources where they are most needed.

Hermosa Beach has over 20 parks and parkettes throughout the City, offering residents ample green space for picnics, outings and sporting events. There are three City parks with large fields: Valley Park, Clark Stadium, and South Park, that are home to several youth and adult sport leagues.
Make Moves Toward a Healthier Mind and Body

The Beach Cities Health District was created with a mission to enhance community health through partnerships, programs and services for people who live and work in the beach cities. Join in on the fun in the new year with the District's physical, social, and wellness program offerings.

Join us for our Community-Wide Garage Sale

It's back! The City will host a community-wide garage sale on Saturday January 25, 2020 with concurrent garage sales throughout the community. For any unsold items, we’ll have a donation center set up with local charities. Host a sale at your house, building or neighborhood block and we’ll take care of the marketing!

What to know what's happening in your neighborhood? With our new website we've launched an interactive map that highlights capital improvement, planning, and other City projects so you can find background materials, participate in upcoming meetings, and keep up with latest status on projects.
Volunteer for the Homeless Count
Join fellow residents on January 22nd for the South Bay Region's Greater Los Angeles Homeless Count. Accurate, timely data on our homeless population and where they live is a critical tool for local governments, as we work to secure and direct resources where they are most needed. Sign up to be a 'counter', driver or organizer. Volunteers for the Hermosa Beach count will be meeting in the City Council Chambers at 8pm (advance sign-up is required). 
Join Our City-Wide Garage Sale
The City of Hermosa Beach will host our third annual community wide garage sale on Saturday, January 25, 2020 from 7 AM to 12 PM with concurrent garage sales throughout Hermosa Beach! 

If you are interested in hosting a garage sale for your home, building, or neighborhood block, please register by January 16, 2020. You are encouraged to coordinate with your neighbors and host a garage sale as a group to attract potential buyers to larger sales.
Battle of the Badges Blood Drive
Now YOU can be someone's "First Responder" by donating blood at the Hermosa Beach Police Department's Annual Battle of the Badges Blood Drive with the American Red Cross. Sign up in advance or stop by Hermosa Beach City Hall between 10am and 4pm on Thursday January 9, 2020. You can start off the new year by making a difference in someone's life with your gift.

To sign up for a time slot, please visit  redcross.org  and select the Hermosa Beach City Hall location. 
Support Our Green Businesses
If you're a local business interested in going green or receiving recognition for your efforts, you can become a Hermosa Beach certified green business. The program is free to participate, and as a business you receive on-site assistance, and local and statewide recognition by participating.

Grass Replacement Rebate Program
Transform your grass landscape into a drought-tolerant California friendly garden with incentives available from West Basin Water District and Metropolitan Water District. You can receive up to $3 per square foot of grass removed per home or business.
Visit Our Lady of Guadalupe School
OLG will host the following events in January:
  • Tuesday, 1/21 6:30pm - TK/Kinder Information Night Prospective parents are highly encouraged to attend this informative evening to learn about our program offerings, receive applications, and sign up for readiness screening appointments. 
  • Monday, 1/28 6:00-7:00pm Open House - Current and prospective families are invited to visit the classrooms and meet our dedicated and talented faculty/staff.
Incentives Available from So Cal Gas
SoCalGas has been providing energy-efficient upgrades through the Energy Savings Assistance Program for over 30 years. Both renters and home owners can qualify based on their annual household income or enrollment in a public assistance program. SoCalGas works with authorized contractors to professionally install a variety of home upgrades, worth hundreds of dollars, at no cost to our customers. 
Take a Stand On Single Use Plastics
With the goal of minimizing litter in the community and preventing these materials from entering our ocean, the City Council recently approved an amendment to the City’s municipal code expanding the ban on polystyrene products and including certain single-use plastics. The ordinance includes the prohibition of the use and distribution of single-use plastic straws, utensils and stirrers as well as the sale and distribution of Mylar of “metalized” balloons.
