We hope you'll shop, eat and entertain locally in Hermosa Beach with family and friends this holiday season! To help you stay local and enjoy all of the festive events Hermosa Beach has to offer, the City of Hermosa Beach is offering FREE on-street parking in our commercial areas.

This year's holiday parking program began November 27th and lasts through, December 25th. Free parking will be offered at street meters in our downtown and commercial zones that are wrapped in red festive holiday meter-covers. Please note that the current 2-hour and 3-hour time limits will still be enforced according to posted signage.
The holiday season - a joyous time filled with family celebrations and beautiful decorations - is also a time to consider safety whether you're decorating, purchasing gifts, or traveling away from home.
Fire Safety Reminders
During this season, more than a third of home decoration fires are started by candles and forty-two percent of decoration fires happen because decorations are placed too close to a heat source.
Protect Your Purchases
'Tis the season for shopping and ordering gifts online! But whether you're shopping online or at the mall, your gifts can become a prime target for porch pirates and parking lot looters. Protect your purchases with these shopping safety tips.
Vacation Check Request
Going out of town for the holidays? Sign up for our Vacation Check Request Program and we'll keep an eye out while you're away. Hermosa Beach residents who are leaving town for an extended period of time can sign up to have the Hermosa Beach Police Department conduct regular exterior checks of their homes while they are away and can quickly contact you in the event something is found abnormal.

Volunteer for the Homeless Count
Join fellow residents on January 22nd for the South Bay Region's Greater Los Angeles Homeless Count. Accurate, timely data on our homeless population and where they live is a critical tool for local governments, as we work to secure and direct resources where they are most needed. Sign up to be a 'counter', driver or organizer. Volunteers for the Hermosa Beach count will be meeting in the City Council Chambers at 8pm (advance sign-up is required).
Join Our City-Wide Garage Sale
The City of Hermosa Beach will host our third annual community wide garage sale on Saturday, January 25, 2020 from 7 AM to 12 PM with concurrent garage sales throughout Hermosa Beach!

If you are interested in hosting a garage sale for your home, building, or neighborhood block, please register by January 16, 2020. You are encouraged to coordinate with your neighbors and host a garage sale as a group to attract potential buyers to larger sales.
Support Our Green Businesses
If you're a local business interested in going green or receiving recognition for your efforts, you can become a Hermosa Beach certified green business. The program is free to participate, and as a business you receive on-site assistance, and local and statewide recognition by participating.

Take a Stand On Single Use Plastics
With the goal of minimizing litter in the community and preventing these materials from entering our ocean, the City Council recently approved an amendment to the City’s municipal code expanding the ban on polystyrene products and including certain single-use plastics. The ordinance includes the prohibition of the use and distribution of single-use plastic straws, utensils and stirrers as well as the sale and distribution of Mylar of “metalized” balloons. Find outreach materials and resources on our website.
