Superintendent's Weekly Message

I want to take a moment to express my sincere gratitude to all of our HVS families for the overwhelming support of the Hermosa Beach Education Foundation (HBEF) and Hermosa View, Vista, & Valley Parent Teacher Organization (HVPTO). Your generosity during HBEF’s Back-to-School Annual Giving Campaign, along with the record-breaking participation in the Skechers Pier to Pier Friendship Walk, has truly made a difference in enhancing educational opportunities for our students. Your commitment to our Hermosa Schools reflects the strength of our community and our shared dedication to providing the best possible learning environment for our children.

I’d also like to extend a special thanks to the countless volunteers working tirelessly behind the scenes to make both HBEF and HVPTO events a success. Your time, energy, and efforts are deeply appreciated and have a lasting impact on our students, staff, and school programs.

As we look ahead, I’m excited to see all of you at this Friday’s HVPTO's Halloween Carnival at Hermosa Valley on October 25th, from 4:30-8:30 PM! It promises to be an evening filled with fun, laughter, and community spirit, with games, food, and plenty of spooky surprises…like my debut in the Dunk Tank. I look forward to seeing you there and sharing some spine-chilling fun together.

Best,

Dr. Susan Wildes

Superintendent of Schools, Hermosa Beach City School District

DID YOU KNOW?

General Obligation Bond, Measure HV = NO TAX INCREASE

Measure HV (Hermosa Valley) a general obligation bond supporting Hermosa Beach City School District with no increase in taxes, will be on the ballot this November. Measure HV is needed to secure essential funding for Safety, Science & Classrooms, Solar, and Sports facility upgrades and modernization.

All funds remain in Hermosa Beach and will be overseen by an independent committee. Thanks to the citizens of Hermosa Beach whose previous approval of Measure S brought us modernized and upgraded View and Vista campuses. Our work, however, is not done as more infrastructure repair and improvement work is needed at Hermosa Valley. Measure HV, if approved, will bring classrooms, campuses, and facilities up to modern educational and safety standards.

Tours are also available upon request; we’d love to show you all that our preschool program has to offer. You can also learn more by visiting our HB Preschool at View website.

I also want to take a moment to remind everyone about the food guidelines in our wellness plan. Hermosa View & Vista - Halloween Costume Parade

View and Vista families, join us on Thursday, October 31, for our annual Halloween Costume Parade! Please note that you will not be required to check in at the front office for this event.

  • At View: Families will enter at 8:45 AM via the fire lane on the north side of campus and remain on the grass. The parade will go from 9:00-10:00 AM on the View blacktop.
  • At Vista: Families will enter at 1:30 PM via the front entrance gate. The parade will go from 1:45-2:30 PM.

If your child would like to wear a costume to school, they are welcome to do so, but please keep the following guidelines in mind:

  • Students may not bring items resembling weapons (e.g., no fake knives, swords, guns, etc.)
  • Masks are allowed only during the parade. Afterward, parents/guardians must take the masks home, or students should store them in their backpacks.
  • Makeup should not drip, smudge, or interfere with their schoolwork. Any makeup must be applied at home, as there won’t be time to do this at school. Please use makeup sparingly and leave it at home.
  • Gruesome costumes or makeup (e.g., no fake blood) are not allowed.
  • Costumes must follow the school dress code.
  • Teachers may ask students to remove parts of elaborate or cumbersome costumes during class time. Please provide a change of clothes or check with your child’s teacher if you’re unsure of what’s acceptable.
  • Students should arrive at school already dressed in their costumes, as there won’t be time to change upon arrival.
  • Students must wear closed-toed shoes.

Please note: Do not send candy to school after Halloween for the children to eat. Any candy brought to school will be confiscated.
