Welcome to the inaugural issue of Wave Watch, our new district newsletter! We're excited to bring you the latest news, updates, and events from all Hermosa schools in one convenient place. Whether it's highlights from Hermosa View, Vista, or Valley, Wave Watch will help you stay informed and connected with everything happening across our district.
This new format is in response to the feedback we received in our Hermosa Schools Communications Survey 2024, distributed last May, and input from our Listening and Learning events with parents/guardians, community members, and staff. We've heard your requests, and are happy to streamline our communication going forward.
We also have more Listening & Learning Coffee with Dr. Wildes, Superintendent (For Parents/Guardians and Community Members) coming up, and we welcome you to come by:
Hermosa View School
Friday, October 11

Hermosa Vista School

Tech Tip of the Month: Chromebook Care & Readiness!
The HBCSD Information Technology (IT) Department would like to remind all parents and students to help keep their Chromebooks ready for a successful school day by following these simple steps:
-
Charge Up Every Night: Make it a habit to fully charge your Chromebook each evening to ensure it’s ready for a full day of learning.
-
Keep the Case On: Always use the protective case to prevent screen damage and extend the life of your device.
Let’s work together to keep our tech in top shape for a smooth and productive school year!

Welcome to October! We’re thrilled about the fun fall activities coming up this month. Be sure to mark your calendars for our annual HVPTO Halloween Carnival at Valley School on October 25th—it’s going to be an evening full of fun for the whole family! Then, on October 31st, our View and Vista students are invited to show off their costumes in the Halloween Parade, and we’d love for families to come and enjoy the excitement with us. We can’t wait to celebrate together!

Reminder: Submit Absences Online
Parents, please remember to submit student absences through our Report an Absence Online web page instead of notifying teachers or calling the front office. This ensures that absences are recorded accurately and promptly. We appreciate your cooperation!

Hermosa Valley School Principal News | |
We’re a bit into fall now, even though these midday temperatures seem to be saying otherwise! As we settle into the rhythm of the school year, I want to remind you that middle school progress reports will be sent out late this week. Additionally, fifth-grade families will receive progress summaries for students who may need extra support in certain areas, so please keep an eye out for those. It's been fantastic to see so many students engaging in after-school sports, and the energy on campus is inspiring!
A quick reminder for those riding e-bikes and e-scooters: stickers are required to bring them on campus. If you have any questions or need assistance, please contact Kathy Jonas.
This week, we are happy to invite Ms. Erin back from Beach Kids Yoga to run lunchtime sessions with our 5th-8th grade students. Swing by to participate on Wednesday!
We're excited about the upcoming Skechers Friendship Walk on Sunday, October 20, followed by the Halloween Carnival on Friday, October 25. And don’t forget—on Wednesday, October 9, we'll be walking and rolling to school!
Have a great week!
Jessica Bledsoe, Hermosa Valley Principal

DID YOU KNOW?
General Obligation Bond, Measure HV = NO TAX INCREASE
Measure HV (Hermosa Valley) a general obligation bond supporting Hermosa Beach City School District with no increase in taxes, will be on the ballot this November. Measure HV is needed to secure essential funding for Safety, Science & Classrooms, Solar, and Sports facility upgrades and modernization.
All funds remain in Hermosa Beach and will be overseen by an independent committee. Thanks to the citizens of Hermosa Beach whose previous approval of Measure S brought us modernized and upgraded View and Vista campuses. Our work, however, is not done as more infrastructure repair and improvement work is needed at Hermosa Valley. Measure HV, if approved, will bring classrooms, campuses, and facilities up to modern educational and safety standards.
For more information, go to hbcsd.org or review this informational flyer for details.

Skechers Pier to Pier Friendship Walk - Join the HBEF Team
This year marks the 16th annual Skechers Pier to Pier Friendship Walk on Sunday, October 20th. This event raises money for our schools and special needs children. Last year, this event brought in over $245K for our Hermosa Schools.
Why do we love this event? It is the only fundraiser that gives back almost 4x your donation in return! With every $30 registration, our schools receive up to $120 back. So register the whole family (and pets too!) on your teacher’s team found at hbef.org. To sweeten the deal, HBEF will have weekly raffles, teacher prizes, and class competitions, so register today!
Please contact skechers@hbef.org if you have additional questions.
