Dear HBCSD Families,
At Hermosa Beach City School District, we are committed to creating the best possible educational experience for our students. As we continue to refine our three-year HBCSD Strategic Plan, we need your input to help shape our district’s future priorities.
We invite you to participate in the 2026 HBCSD LCAP/Strategic Planning Input Survey, which is open through Friday, May 8. This is an opportunity to share your thoughts on what’s working well and where we can improve. The survey is structured around our core goals, Community, Excellence, and Inclusion, and will directly influence the district’s direction for the next three years. Every response and every comment is read and considered in our planning process.
We'd like to ask each parent or guardian to complete one survey for each child enrolled in our district. The survey should take approximately 15-20 minutes, and all responses are anonymous. Please click here to take the survey.
Additionally, all 5th-8th grade students will be asked to participate in the survey to share their perspectives. If you prefer that your student not participate, please submit the Opt Out Form by Friday, March 17, at 3:30 PM.
Your voice matters, and we appreciate your time and partnership in shaping the future of Hermosa Schools.
Warm regards,
Dr. Susan Wildes
Superintendent of Schools, Hermosa Beach City School District

Parenting in a Digital World Tip #23: Emotional Growth vs. Screen Dependence
This tip comes from the American Academy of Pediatrics.
Dealing with child fussing, tantruming, and negative emotions is hard, and it’s normal to want a break. But when children’s emotions are frequently managed with screens, they have more emotional problems in the long-term. Check out this infographic from the American Academy of Pediatrics for tips for helping your child learn to self-regulate their emotions.

Dear View Families,
I hope you all had a wonderful spring break and had the opportunity to spend some quality time with your friends and family. We are so excited to welcome our students back to View tomorrow. It is hard to believe there are just nine weeks left of this school year!
Looking ahead, this Friday, we have our next Flag Assembly at 9am at the blacktop, recognizing students who have been friendly at Hermosa View. If you plan to join us, please remember to enter and exit through the gate just past the Northgate. Ms. Sheue’s class will be performing for us and I get to be pied in the face by our very own Andy and Reya who helped our school raise the most money in the Dolphin Dash! I definitely can’t wait for that!
I look forward to seeing you all tomorrow!
Warmly,
Dr. Jessica Ghobrial, Hermosa View Principal / HB Preschool Director

Dear Vista Families,
I hope you had a wonderful Spring Break and were able to enjoy quality time with your family. I am excited to reconnect as we return and make a strong push toward the end of the year. We still have important work ahead, including CAASPP testing, along with all the fun end-of-year activities.
Our final Flag Ceremony will take place on April 24th at 9:00 a.m. During this event, we will recognize students who have demonstrated all four expectations: being safe, up for a challenge, respectful, and friendly. These students will be celebrated for their hard work and commitment to these values.
As an added highlight, I’ll be getting pied in the face by a Vista student who made a generous contribution to Dolphin Dash, and that student is Ben!
Thank you for your continued support as we work together to make meaningful and successful memories.
Warmly,
Grace Yang, Hermosa Vista Principal

Counseling Corner
Thanks to the hard work of our amazing school counselor, Ms. Cassy Ryley, we are excited to be able to offer two new counseling groups here at Valley:
Peer Mediation:
Hermosa Valley School is proud to introduce our Peer Mediation Program, developed by the Whitaker Peace and Development Initiative’s Domestic Harmonizer Program. Through this initiative, trained Leadership students work under the guidance of counseling staff to support peers who are experiencing conflict. Using skills in communication, empathy, and problem-solving, peer mediators help students resolve disagreements in a peaceful and constructive way. Beginning after Spring Break, students can sign up to receive peer mediation support. Be sure to check out our peer mediators’ video to learn more about how the program works!
Afterschool Intervention: High School Readiness (8th Graders ONLY):
8th grade students are invited to attend afterschool group support focused on building the skills, knowledge, and confidence needed for a successful transition to high school.
Tuesdays | April 14 – May 19, 2026 | 3:00–3:45 PM
Students will:
- Learn about high school graduation and A–G requirements
- Develop strategies for academic success
- Explore athletics and eligibility expectations

- And more!

Hermosa Valley Math Olympiad Team
In it's first year, the Hermosa Valley Math Olympiad team, led by Ms. Danika Brown, 6th/7th Grade Math Teacher, brings together a group of dedicated and curious students who enjoy tackling challenging problems and thinking creatively. Throughout the year, team members work together to strengthen their problem-solving skills, explore advanced math concepts, and build confidence in a supportive environment. By collaborating, practicing, and competing, students develop perseverance, critical thinking, and a deeper appreciation for mathematics, all while representing our school with pride. Our HVS team has competed in two competitions thus far and will compete in the LA County Office of Education Math Field Day on Saturday, April 18, from 8:00 AM-5:30 PM.
