In honor of Presidents Day, Hernando County Government offices and Library Services will be closed. TheBus and the Main Landfill will remain open and Republic Services will continue to provide service as normal on Monday, February 20, 2023.

Public Information

The Public Information Department is dedicated to providing citizens with access to all things local government. On January 16th, Hernando County Government's facebook page live streamed the MLK Day Parade on Facebook.

Utilities Department

On January 31st, Hernando County Utilties Department hosted a Valve Closure Decommission Ceremony at the Spring Hill Water Reclamation Facility. The significance of the closure of this facility will help reduce the level of nitrates entering the aquifer and lessen the impact on the Weeki Wachee Springs and River.

Florida's Adventure Coast

On January 12th, Florida Adventure Coast hosted an unveiling ceremony at Weeki Wachee Springs State Park for the #MermaidTaleTrail. This legacy project coincided with the 75th anniversary of Weeki Wachee Springs State Park – Home of the World-Famous Mermaids. In honor of the Park’s anniversary, 27 mermaid statues will be placed throughout the entire County. Each is hand-painted by a selected artist promoting Florida’s Adventure Coast, Brooksville-Weeki Wachee.

Board of County Commissioners | Your Commission committed to the County

Commissioner John Allocco attended and spoke at the #MermaidTaleTrail unveiling ceremony on January 12th as the tourism department unveiled 27 hand painted mermaid statues that will be placed around the County.

County Commissioners Jerry Campbell and John Allocco attended the first Greater Hernando County Chamber of Commerce monthly membership meeting of the year.

The Board of County Commissioners presented a Resolution at the January 24th Board of County Commissioners Meeting Proclaiming February 2023 as Black History Month.

On January 24th, the Hernando County Board of County Commissioners presented Doug Chorvat Jr., Clerk of Court and Comptroller and his phenomenal staff of clerks with a Resolution Proclaiming February 2, 2023, as Clerk Appreciation Day.

Jerry Campbell attended the Anti Human Trafficking Awareness Event hosted by the MFCS, Inc. Children's Advocacy Center of Hernando County and presented the resolution proclaiming January 2023 as Human Trafficking Awareness month.

Commissioner Brian Hawkins and Commissioner Jerry Campbell were in attendance to welcome Congressman Gus Bilirakis of Florida's Twelfth Congressional District to his new office located at 15 N. Main Street in beautiful Downtown Brooksville.

Volunteer | On Various Committees and Board

Hernando County Planning and Zoning Commission

The Hernando County Board of County Commissioners is accepting applications from individuals interested in serving as a member on the Planning and Zoning Commission. This is a voluntary, non-paid position. 


There is currently one (1) position open for appointment:

  • District 1 - Term Expires 12/31/2024


Applications are available in the County Administrator’s Office, 15470 Flight Path Drive, Brooksville, Florida, 34604, by calling 352-754-4002, or by visiting www.HernandoCounty.us/Committees.


Applications must be returned to the County Administrator’s Office no later than 5:00 p.m., Friday, February 17, 2023.

Citizens Advisory Committee (CAC)

The CAC is an advisory board which assists the MPO in conducting effective public information and participation programs, and advising the MPO of public opinion on policy issues to be considered by the MPO.

Transportation Disadvantaged Local Coordinating Board (TDLCB)

The TDLCB assists the Community Transportation Coordinator with transportation disadvantaged services to those persons who because of physical or mental disability, income status, or age are unable to transport themselves or to purchase transportation and are, therefore, dependent upon others to obtain access to health care, employment, education, shopping, social activities, or other life-sustaining activities, or children who are handicapped or high-risk or at-risk.
