Hernando County Fire & Emergency Services (HCFES)

HCFES was called upon by the State for assistance in Lee County for moving patients out of the various hospitals and other healthcare facilities devastated by Hurricane Ian. HCFES is part of a mass casualty bus strike team. Each bus is capable of transporting 12 oxygen dependent patients. The team was deployed 7 days. HCFES employees FF/PM Dean Linton, FF/EMT Ed Gibbs, and FF/EMT Ryan Quigley stepped up to answer the call to help the victims in Lee County. We wish them safe travels.

UF/IFAS

On Saturday, September 17, University of Florida/IFAS Extension at Hernando County and the Florida Sea Grant hosted their annual Coastal Clean Up! Over 200 volunteers showed up to help pick up garbage along the coast in Hernando Beach, Osowaw Blvd., Linda Pedersen Park, Bayport, and Pine Island.

Halloween Office Decor

The East Hernando Library branch has up fall decorations and multiple bookshelf displays for all the hungry vampires looking to take a bite out of some delicious looking books. Mwahahaha. (Pictured right) The Utilities Department also hopped on board and displayed Halloween theme decor through in the office. (Pictured below)

Board of County Commissioners | Your Commission committed to the County

On September 17th, County Commissioner Jeff Holcomb read a proclamation by the Board of County Commissioners establishing Constitution Week during the event celebrating the 235th anniversary of the Constitution of the United States.

County Commissioner John Allocco visited with Cub Scouts pack 708 on September 2nd. The den is currently working towards their "Build a Better World” requirement and had the opportunity to learn about Commissioner Allocco's role in Government.

Commissioners John Allocco and Jeff Holcomb along with Commissioner Elect Jerry Campbell attended the September 28th press conference while County Administrator Jeff Rogers and the Emergency Management team gave the public updates pending the storm.

Budget Approved


At the Tuesday, October 4th, 2022 final budget hearing, the Hernando County Board of County Commissioners have approved the Fiscal Year 2022-2023 Annual Budget.

Meetings and Agendas


As of June 22, 2022, Hernando County Government and the Clerk's Office launched Legistar, a new system for accessing all Hernando County government meetings.

Hurricane Ian | Hernando County focuses on public safety

Activated During The Storm

The Emergency Operations Center activated the week of September 26th to ensure public safety during the storm. The public was notified about sandbag locations, evacuations, and recovery information throughout the entire week. 


The County held 4 press conferences, sent out 12 media releases, communicated pertinent information through 140 social media posts reaching over 157,000 people, and kept the website up-to-date with shelter information, etc.
