Martin Luther King, Jr. Day

In honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Hernando County Government offices, Library Services, and Transit Services (TheBus) will be closed. The Main Landfill will remain open and Republic Services will continue to provide service as normal on Monday, January 16, 2023.

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) begins

Hernando County Public Library System


Partnering with United Way of Hernando County, residents can have their taxes prepared for free through the VITA program hosted at the libraries. Call 352-754-4043 for locations, hours, and appointments.

Animal Services

Animal Services has lifted the suspension of dog operations due to the pneumovirus. In appreciation for the community support, Hernando County is waiving all adoption fees Wednesday, December 28, 2022 through Saturday, January 7, 2023. Adoptions can be made at Hernando County Animal Services located at 19450 Oliver Street, Brooksville, FL 34601.

Department of Public Works

The Hernando County Association of Realtors recently hosted a volunteer outing to collect garbage on their roadway that they adopted through the Department of Public Works.

The group has 11 members and they adopted 1 mile on Jacqueline Rd., between Sunshine Grove and Weeping Willow. Year to date they had several cleaning events totaling 25 bags of trash. We are proud of our volunteers!

Hernando County Fire Rescue

Board of County Commissioners | Your Commission committed to the County

On Dec. 10th, Commissioners Jerry Campbell, Brian Hawkins, Beth Narverud, Steve Champion, and County Administrator Jeff Rogers rode on a gingerbread themed float in the 48th Annual Brooksville Kiwanis Christmas Parade - Have A "MARVEL" OUS CHRISTMAS. County staff worked hard creating the float and won 1st place!

During the Dec. 13th BOCC meeting, the Hernando County Board of County Commissioners were presented the 2022 Capital Credit Refund of $152,539.62 from Withlacoochee River Electric Cooperative, Inc. Pictured are the Commissioners and WREC Representative David Gonzalez.

On Dec. 16th, Hernando County Government and Parks and Recreation hosted a holiday themed ribbon cutting to unveil the brand new playground and park upgrades at Ridge Manor Community Park. In attendance to help cut the ribbon was Commissioner Jerry Campbell and Hernando County School Board Member Susan Duval.

As of June 22, 2022, Hernando County Government and the Clerk's Office launched Legistar, a new system for accessing all Hernando County government meetings.

Hernando County | Board of County Commissioners

2022-2023 Board

During the November 29, 2022, Hernando County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) meeting, newly elected Commissioners for District 2 Brian Hawkins and District 4 Jerry Campbell were sworn in by Fifth Judicial Circuit Administrative Judge Daniel B. Merritt, Jr. who administered the oath.


At this meeting, the BOCC elected its officers that will preside over the next year. The new officers will serve through November 2023 and were elected as follows: Chairman John Allocco, Vice Chair Elizabeth Narverud and Second Vice Chair Steve Champion.


The five county commissioners are elected for four-year terms by the voters at large and represent the geographical district in which they reside. The BOCC approves the county budget, adopts local ordinances and resolutions, and establishes policies which govern Hernando County and ensure the health, safety, and welfare of the citizens.
