Hernando County Fire Rescue is hosting an event to educate children & families about water safety. This free event will have table tops, children life jackets (first come, first serve), & spraying water from the ladder truck.

Memorial Day

Remember and Honor


Hernando County Government offices, Library Services, and Transit Services (TheBus) will be closed. The Main Landfill will remain open and Republic Services will continue to provide service as normal on Monday, May 29, 2023.

Parks & Recreation

Hernando County Parks & Recreation hosted the "No Smoking No Vaping Signage Unveiling Ceremony" at Anderson Snow Park on April 22nd. The Unveiling Ceremony revealed artwork that was submitted by local students from Challenger K-8, Fox Chapel Middle School, Parrott Middle School, Spring Hill Elementary, and Discovery Academy. With over 164 creative artwork submissions, 30 winners were selected. 100 signs were be printed showcasing the 30 different designs throughout each park and beach in the county.

Utilities Department

Hernando County Utilities Department hosted their annual Clear Vision for Healthy Springs Workshop on April 14th at the Sand Hill Scout Reservation owned by the Greater Tampa Bay Area Council, Boy Scouts of America. This workshop consisted of table top vendors, experts from all over the state, multiple presentations, and even a guest appearance and presentation by Hernando County Administrator, Jeff Rogers.

Planning and Zoning Divisions

Hernando County Planning & Zoning Divisions hosted a training at the Hernando County Association of Realtors Board on April 13th. Local members learned more about the process and how to utilize the website for planning & zoning needs.

Department of Public Works

The Department of Public Works (DPW) hosted their annual Touch- A-Truck event on April 1st. Hundreds of families stopped by and climbed up in the trucks, honked horns, and had the opportunity to speak with the operators of the equipment to learn all about these awesome trucks. This event was in support of National Public Works Week.

Fleet Department

Congressman Gus Bilirakis stopped by Hernando County’s Fleet Department on April 6th to learn about all of the different types of equipment, vehicles, and Fire Trucks the department services. Congressman Bilirakis had a chance to meet staff and ask questions about the great work they do every day.

Emergency Management

Mark your calendars! Hernando County #HernandoPrepares Hurricane & Safety Expo will be June 3rd, 2023.


Come out and meet with our local news meteorologist, exhibitors, Touch A Truck, kids zone, SkyWarn class, Life South Blood Donations and much more.

Board of County Commissioners | Your Commission committed to the County

At the April 25, 2023 Board of County Commissioners meeting, County Administrator Jeff Rogers read a resolution that proclaims May 2023 as Building Safety Month. Building Division staff were in attendance and happy to be recognized during the meeting. 

Circuit Judge Don Barbee attended the April 25, 2023 Board of County Commissioners meeting in regards to a resolution that proclaims April 30, 2023, through May 6, 2023, as Law Week.

On March 30th, the Hernando County BOCC, Brooksville City Council, and Hernando County School Board came together to discuss housing development, impact fees, school capacity, and many other topics during the Interlocal Governmental Meeting at the beautiful PHSC North Campus.

Volunteer | On Various Committees and Board

Affordable Housing Advisory Committee

The Hernando County Board of County Commissioners is accepting applications from individuals interested in serving as a member on the Affordable Housing Advisory Committee. This is a voluntary, non-paid position. 


There is currently six (6) positions open:

  • One citizen who is a representative of the banking/mortgage banking industry
  • One citizen who is actively engaged as a for-profit provider of affordable housing
  • One citizen who is actively engaged as a not-for-profit provider of affordable housing
  • One citizen who is a representative of those areas of labor actively engaged in home building in connection with affordable housing
  • One citizen who resides within the jurisdiction of the local governing body making the appointments
  • One citizen who actively serves on the local planning agency pursuant to F.S. 163.3174. If the local planning agency is comprised of the governing board of the county or municipality, the governing board may appoint a designee who is knowledgeable in the local planning process.


Applications are available in the County Administrator’s Office, 15470 Flight Path Drive, Brooksville, Florida, 34604, by calling 352-754-4002, or by visiting www.HernandoCounty.us/Committees.


Applications must be returned to the County Administrator’s Office no later than 5:00 p.m., Friday, May 19, 2023.

Citizens Advisory Committee (CAC)

The CAC is an advisory board which assists the MPO in conducting effective public information and participation programs, and advising the MPO of public opinion on policy issues to be considered by the MPO.

  • Citrus County Low Income and/or Minority Representative
  • Hernando County Low Income and/or Minority Representative
  • Hernando County Unincorporated Representative
  • Hernando County Public Transit User Representative
  • Citrus County Public Transit User Representative

Transportation Disadvantaged Local Coordinating Board (TDLCB)

The TDLCB assists the Community Transportation Coordinator with transportation disadvantaged services to those persons who because of physical or mental disability, income status, or age are unable to transport themselves or to purchase transportation and are, therefore, dependent upon others to obtain access to health care, employment, education, shopping, social activities, or other life-sustaining activities, or children who are handicapped or high-risk or at-risk.
