During the busyness of the holidays, we sometimes forget the individuals deployed that sacrifice so much for our freedoms. That is why for the month of November Hernando County Government is participating in R.E.D. Shirt Fridays!

R.E.D. is an acronym that stands for, “Remember Everyone Deployed.” As we prepare for the holidays, let's Remember Everyone Deployed!

Hernando County Fire and Emergency Services

Join us in welcoming Paul Hasenmeier as the Hernando County Director of Public Safety and Fire Chief. Chief Hasenmeier joined the Hernando County Fire and Emergency Services Team on October 17, 2022.

Parks and Recreation

Hernando County Parks & Recreation staff had their quarterly meeting over at the beautiful Lonnie Coburn park. Staff enjoyed a cookout and awards for their hard work. Congrats to the East Side Team for being recognized this quarter for maintenance and upkeep at the parks!

Animal Services

Animal Services approached Operation Kindness to see if they could fund brand new cat kennels to move the cats away from the noisy dogs. They jumped right in along with Kelly and Robin who wanted to honor their late parents who loved animals. Rick Silvani from Pet Luv also helped make this dream a reality. On Nov. 9th, Animal Services hosted a grand opening of the brand new cat kennels!

Board of County Commissioners | Your Commission committed to the County

The Oct. 25th BOCC meeting was Hernando County Commissioner of District 4 Jeff Holcomb's last meeting this year. He served on the County Commission since Nov. 4, 2014 when he was originally elected and was later re-elected on Nov. 6, 2018.

At the Nov. 8th BOCC meeting, Hernando County Commissioner of District 2 Wayne Dukes was recognized for his 12 years of service to Hernando County. Commissioner Dukes has served 3 terms from Nov. 16, 2010 - Nov. 8, 2022.

Hernando County Commissioner and Board Chair Steve Champion met with County representatives to sign on behalf of the County's $52 million bond issuance. The bond covers various capital improvement projects for Hernando County.

Newly Elected Commissioners and Officers Will Be Decided

The administration of oath of the newly elected commissioners will take place at the November 29, 2022 Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) meeting. At this meeting, the BOCC will hold the election of officers for the Chairman, Vice Chairman, and second Vice Chairman for 2023.

Meetings and Agendas

As of June 22, 2022, Hernando County Government and the Clerk's Office launched Legistar, a new system for accessing all Hernando County government meetings.

Tropical Storm Nicole | Hernando County focuses on public safety

The Emergency Operations Center monitored Tropical Storm Nicole last week and notified the public about sandbag locations, weather updates, office closures, and recovery information. The County sent out 8 media releases and shared 31 social media posts to keep the public informed with live updates.
