Is social media a force for good in fly fishing? This seems almost a no-brainer. What could fly fishing possible fear from social media?

Well, having been on the wrong end of a very unpleasant Twitter storm I know that the language and threats can put you literally in fear of your life. The recent targeting of specimen wild fish identified on social media has put immense pressure on otherwise rarely fished waters.

Instagram star Beaky Allesch-Taylor will tell us how she has used it to promote fly fishing to an audience who never knew how wonderful our sport is for mind and body. I’ll tell you how it helped transform my business. The carp fishing industry is currently surfing a wave of social media inspired popularity.

But counter to that is the pressure on precious fish. Andrew Flitcroft will expand on his recent Trout & Salmon editorial that examines "the deliberate targeting of known big wild trout". Charles Jardine has a similar tale of barbel.

Is this bad for fish? We hope to have the answer from Kenny Galt from the Tweed Foundation who has conducted a study into this very question. And is part of social media bad for fishing?

Join us on Zoom at 7pm Thursday July 1st. Feel free to just listen in, but equally we take questions from the floor and there is a activate (often lighthearted!) chat room during the one hour discussion. Here are the login details.
