Christmas Service-Learning Project
Ridgeland Secondary Academy of Excellence
On December 17, 2024, students from Ms. Wanda Woodberry, Mr. Reginald Alexander, and Ms. Bernadette Jones’ class from Ridgeland Secondary Academy of Excellence visited Lowcountry Senior Citizen Center in Ridgeland. Prior to the visit, students made gifts, purchased gifts, and gift-wrapped gifts for the seniors. The students also worked on written expression skills when designing Christmas cards. At the Senior Citizen Center, the students participated in a meet and greet with the senior citizens and explained their seasonal service-learning project. Christmas poems were read and seasonal songs were performed for the senior citizens as a part of their presentation. After the reading of the poems and songs, students passed out Christmas gifts to the seniors that they had prepared.
Additionally, students from Ms. Woodberry’s class also prepared, wrapped, and provided gifts for the Ridgeland Secondary Academy of Excellence cafeteria staff. Ms. Woodberry, Ms. Jones, and Coach Alexander would like to thank Ms. Adrienne Maybank, Principal of Ridgeland Secondary Academy of Excellence, and Mrs. Paige Elmore and Mrs. Melissa Lane of Special Services, along with the staff of Lowcountry Senior Citizen Center for their support and help with this project.
