The Message this Week

Preaching Text: Matthew 10:24-39

Clearing the site! Sometimes we need to get rid of some things to make room for something new. Some of the people Jesus encounters do exactly this- they walk away from their lives to follow Jesus. Others aren’t so able or willing. Doing the site clearing work makes it more possible to receive Jesus in all the ways he may show up. Let’s ponder together this weekend!

God, sometimes it feels like You are bulldozing a path through my life as You create space for me to encounter Jesus. Thank you. In His name, Amen.

WONDERING...

Real questions from real people to learn more about faith.

  • Life-giving God, you have called your people to lose their lives for Jesus’ sake. Strengthen your church to follow you in the face of difficulty.
  • Creator God, you know every sparrow that falls to the ground. Protect migrating birds, endangered species, and their natural habitats.
  • Sovereign God, you call us to act justly and love mercy. Protect those with marginalized identities to whom we have not shown the abounding love of Jesus.
  • Sustaining God, you promise to provide for us. Help those living with disability. Comfort those experiencing any sort of illness or suffering.
  • Empowering God, strengthen us to live out our diverse callings. We pray especially for fathers and father figures, that they show your compassion and care. We pray for all for whom this day is difficult or painful.
  • Faithful God, we give thanks for saints who have claimed their baptismal promises. May we follow their example of faith and service.

Trusting you receive all our prayers, we commend our spoken and unspoken prayers to you, O God, through Jesus our Savior. Amen.

The Call Committee has selected a candidate for the position of Associate Pastor to present to the congregation for approval. The committee recommends this candidate unanimously, with great enthusiasm, and with the full support of Pastor Trudy. We believe this candidate stood out among others, not only for their giftedness to fulfill the role, but also for how well they align with the vision and values of GLC.

The congregation will have a chance to meet and interact with the candidate during the weekend of July 18th-19th. There will be a Q&A with the candidate after Saturday night's service, and also between services on Sunday the 19th. After getting to know the candidate, the congregation will vote on whether or not to call them to the position of Associate Pastor after the 10:30am service that same day.

In the meantime, it is essential that the candidate not be named, in order to protect their ability to minister within their current setting. Please keep an eye out for more details about the Candidacy Weekend, and we ask for your continued prayers for both GLC and our candidate. Please email callcommittee@genevalutheran.org with any questions.

We had a young man contact us about the piano on Facebook. He came with a few of his friends to move it out of the church. Prayers of gratitude that it found a home with a kind person who is truly excited to have it.
