Father’s Day
As we head into this weekend, our hearts turn toward celebrating Father’s Day—a time to honor the fathers, grandfathers, and spiritual mentors who have poured into our lives. One of the beatitudes we are looking at this week has been on my heart as we approach this day: meekness.
In a loud world, "meekness" is frequently mistaken for weakness. But biblical meekness (prautes) is actually power under control. It is the posture of a great strength that has been channeled for a steady, loving purpose.
When we look at the father figures who leave the deepest impressions on us, it is rarely their dominance we remember. Instead, it is their quiet strength. It is their capacity to be a safe harbor in a storm, to offer a steady hand when we stumble, and to restrain their own frustrations to make room for our growth.
True fathering—and true spiritual mentoring—requires an immense amount of this controlled strength. It takes power to listen patiently when it would be easier to interrupt, to offer gentleness when the world demands harshness, and to step into the background so a child or mentee can shine.
This is the model of fatherhood we see in the character of God—a Father who is almighty, yet incredibly tender.
This Father’s Day, let us celebrate the quiet giants among us. To all who are navigating this day—whether you are celebrating, remembering, longing, or standing as a spiritual guardian to those around you—may you know the steady, comforting presence of the Father who walks beside us all.
Grace and Peace,
Pastor Brandon
