Greetings!
In the not so distant past, being able to work from anywhere seemed to be a novel option that was only available to a select handful of workers. In 2019, fewer than 6% of Americans worked primarily from home.
The COVID-19 pandemic was a game-changer that caused an abrupt shift to remote work for many businesses around the world. In May 2020, a survey by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that approximately 35% of the employed workforce in the U.S. had at least partially worked from home due to the pandemic. Thatβs 48.7 million new people in the telecommute arena!
The pandemic created a unique global shift where nearly every job that was possible to accomplish remotely became such, seemingly overnight. With more people working remotely than ever before, we have seen a definite uptick in posture-related health issues.
While back and neck conditions top the list of posture woes, there are many others β such as poor balance, headaches, constipation, incontinence and breathing difficulties. Researchers are also looking into whether posture affects mood, sleep, fatigue, and jaw alignment.
On a daily basis, the InnerMovement staff are educating patients on their posture imbalances and teaching them how to improve their spinal health. Posture is an integral part of alleviating neck and back pain and because of the nerve/spine connection; good posture is important for maintaining total body health.
Forward Head Posture, Dowagers Hump, and slumped posture causes an increase in nerve pressure along the spine reducing vital nerve flow to every tissue and organ that the nerve supplies.
