Welcome to the Purple Edition of Talk About Guts! Ahead of World IBD Day, we’re bringing you an issue packed with inspirational stories and fun events to look out for this month.
Paving a better future for those to come
“I have always felt the Gutsy Walk was my way of helping to make the road behind me a little straighter, and hopefully a little easier for those that follow.”

Much has changed since Perry Cornell first took part in the Gutsy Walk in 2005. But he knows there is still work to be done, and that is why he walks.
Two sides of the same coin
When Sam and Logan first met each other in the BC Children's Hospital, they had an instant connection. We spoke to them about their IBD journeys, and why they participate in the Gutsy Walk. (Speaking of which, the big day is only a few weeks away! Make sure you register if you haven't already.)

Gutsy Walk on TV
Our 2019 Gutsy Walk PSA is now live! Share the video with your friends to spread the news, and keep an eye out for it on your local TV station.

Showing some love to our volunteers
The progress we have made in research and awareness would not have been possible without the time and effort our amazing volunteers dedicate to helping us. To thank them for their efforts, we surprised them in the mail with a card and some tea, and spotlighted four amazing volunteers from coast to coast.

Are you a student who could use some extra cash?
Imagine what you could do if you didn't have to worry about tuition or rent. If you are a post-secondary student living with Crohn’s or colitis, you could earn $5,000 from the AbbVie IBD Scholarship. Before the June 1 deadline, check out some application advice from our past scholarship recipients:

Did you know that up to 13% of people living with IBD also live with spondyloarthritis (SpA)? Follow us and join our Twitter chat with Dr. Mark Silverberg using the hashtag #GutAndJointChat to learn about the connection between these diseases and hear some patient perspectives.
25th Anniversary Gala for Crohn's and Colitis Canada

At our special 25th Anniversary Fundraising Gala, we will look ahead to a future free from Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. The evening will be headlined by Grammy Award-winning musician Michael Bolton and will honour Marilyn Finkelstein and Don Lebovitz with Lifetime Achievement Awards.
World IBD Day
May 19 | Worldwide

This year, it’s all about #MakingTheInvisibleVisible. As you enjoy the long weekend, maybe try to start a conversation with someone about IBD. Check out our Facebook and Twitter pages throughout the day—we’ll be posting conversation starters and resources! At night, take a gander outside: local landmarks will be lit up in purple to celebrate.
