What were we up to last month?

July 2025

The "School Nutrition Event of the Year"

Marissa and Alex traveled to San Antonio, Texas for the School Nutrition Association's Annual National Conference, also known as the "School Nutrition Event of the Year," which brings together over 6,000 school nutrition professionals from across the country. It was a great chance for our team to highlight the value of produce access and exchange best practices for getting more fresh fruits and veggies into schools, all while addressing concerns in real time.

Marissa moderated a panel called, "Fresh-Cut Solutions for K-12 Success: Maximizing Impact and Participation," which explored how fresh-cut produce streamlines operations by addressing labor shortages and reducing equipment costs.

Demonstrating Produce Solutions at IFPA's Foodservice Conference

At this year’s Foodservice Conference, we introduced a new broccoli chip product, which is an innovative, sustainable snack made from Vegetables by Bayer’s long-stem broccoli stems that would otherwise go to waste. Featured in the International Fresh Produce Association’s “Innovation Showcase,” these chips offer a fun and tasty way to bring more dark leafy greens into school cafeterias and FFVP programs. We were excited to show school nutrition professionals how this kid-friendly product can help support healthy eating in the classroom and were thrilled by the positive reception.

This event offered valuable insight into the restrictions and considerations of school menu planning and opened the door for meaningful conversations about how we can get more fresh produce into schools.

Fresh Look, Greener Future: New Packaging That Protects Both Produce and the Planet

We're eliminating single-use plastics from our school product line and implementing biodegradable plastic and compostable cups. This packaging update will not impact product variety, shelf life, or pricing.

This initiative has been years in the making. As a fresh-cut processor serving children daily, we understand the responsibility we have to pursue sustainable practices. With our switch to eco-friendly packaging, we hope it’s clear that our commitment to a healthier future extends beyond what goes into children’s bodies but to the world they’re growing up in.

Exhibiting at Pennsylvania's School Nutrition Association Annual Conference

Laxmi and Chuck from our team had a blast showcasing our fresh-cut individually packaged and bulk produce offerings to Pennsylvania's school nutrition leaders. At the table they introduced our SnackTime Explorers educational program created with Pilot Light to support FFVP, samples of our 2 oz snack packs perfect for FFVP, as well as sneak peaks at our free classroom resources.

Help Us Welcome Our New Produce Mascots

Our mission is to create the best possible experience for kids when they're trying our produce, and we're detail-oriented! We work hard to select fresh in-season options, offer free educational and fun classroom resources, and now we're introducing produce cartoon characters for our FRESHEALTH brand.

Joining our team is a mighty mango character who's passionate about food origins and the food journey. The jicama is a professor of food safety and handling, asparagus is a farmer who grows all kinds of fresh produce, and the kiwi is our coach and energetic advocate of moving your body and eating fresh produce. What do you think their names should be?
